- he can play about C+ to B tennis and defeat a guy the level of Andy
Roddick... very impressive...

First match in 5 weeks. The important thing was the win...and match
practice which he got plenty and reacted great on difficult moments.

Next match will be better, and it should be because it's against
Novak...I would've preferred Berdych next.

Hardly... the fire and passion of Nadal was palpable... he
incrementally intimidated on defensive side of the ball and that was
the lever that tilted the match his way... as per normal...

everytime roddick had a chance to attack on an important ball, he placed it
badly

...yeah, I'm not really buying the 'so good'. Rather, I think Roddick was
'so bad'. Despite giving every effort, this surface just has no good thing
for him. He needs a surface where his serve is a fortress and where he can
have the chance to hustle. There is just nothing there when the ball sits up
for him...he steps in menacingly.....grunts like he is about to launch a Del
P missile...then the ball trickles back over the other side of the net.
Roddick has a killer serve and good court smarts that on his day and surface
can get him good wins....he just still does not have a big enough weapon
outside the serve.....end of. And so another match slips away, because he
can't put away the opportunities he can create.

Nads did play himself into the match....but looks very rusty. Obviously this
is the important win for him, for even if he takes a fall to Djoke (likely
imo) he only has to beat the simpering Berdych to progress. Job done almost.

He continues to make loads of chances.....but he doesn't hit through the
ball with any extension....rather he measures it then belatedly snatches at
it...and subsequently he can't bury anything through lack of power in his
strokes. He grunts like he is about to put the ball through the back wall
though. A bit like when you see the kids in their 1.1 litre Ford
Fiesta.....with a rally bore exhaust. :)

He did play about the best you would expect for the surface but Nadal
will have trouble deeper into the matches because the ball doesn't sit
up for him and he loses that sweet spot he is use to in the slams he
won this year.

That was the kind of match he would have lost last year. That's about
the nicest thing I can say about his effort.

Roddick hoping for a miracle now. How can this guy win anything with
the
kind of game he has adopted? He's
afraid of pulling the trigger now. This percentage tennis was never
his style.

I did not think Nadal was playing near as good as he did at USO. He
needs to improve his serve and move better to beat Djokovic

Rafa didn't play well at all... that's my point... C/B level getting
it done against bottom 5 top 10 type guys, so far...
