Fed and/or Rafa free final?

Has to happen again, eventually... Rafa the more likely to be in the
RG final, as he's Mr. French Open and younger (chronologically) and
he's still making final after final in majors... Fed remains a tough
out and has long been the second best on clay... BUT... when will we
see BOTH guys NOT make another major final?

Anything can happen, especially this year because of the age of these
players, but Nadal certainly has the much easier road to the finals.
In fact, it's quite the joke.
He doesn't face anyone of consequence until (cough) Murray.

Who would you say is someone of consequence for any of the top three, really
(and Rafa in particular)?

Tsonga, Del Po, Berdych, Isner, Dolgopolev, Raonic. That's about it.
Possibly Verdasco if he gets hot again.

Clarification.
When I say someone of consequence, I don't necessarily mean they will/
could beat the top three, I simply mean that they could put a dent in
them, deflate their tires sufficiently so that their next matches will
be just a little/lot more tougher than would otherwise be.

I think Del P would have had a great chance of at least taking the match
deep. Berdy it would have been interesting....he was so close in AO which
plays even slower than RG. I was hoping to see at least one of them in his
HALF....not all loaded in Feds quarter! :OS

C'est la vie. I like how low the ball is bouncing on the practice vids on
youtube...I don't know if it is different to last years...but it sounds the
same when hit. No doubt the Berdy match would be hellish if it came
off....he always plays Fed hard....but the way he's been playing I think he
has a good shot of the final.

Tsonga on clay nope, that's the easiest quarter one can get. Delpo yes.
Isner maybe. Dolgo nope. And Raonic actually is in his draw before Murray...

Rafa has an amazing draw... if he's ever to win 7 this is the year...
and Murray... well, can he turn his season around on the clay of
Paris? Wouldn't bet on it... Poor Andy, he just cannot get away from
Rafa...

Forget probability this year at the FO. Nadal is going to be too
pumped up mentally as he knows the record breaking 7th FO title is in
close reach. In addition to that his clay form has been outstanding
this season and Nadal, although getting older is still only 25 almost
26. Sure an upset can always happen but in my estimation, it is going
to be very very unlikely this year. Nadal's clay fall is not happening
yet folks.

If he doesn't win I think the probability of winning next year will likely
diminish dramatically.

You are correct that the older Nadal gets the harder it will be, but I
am not seeing any younger players who are great clay court players.
Nadal may win the FO for the next four years as long as he can still

I have a feeling that he's approaching mental and physical burnout. NO real
proof but just have a perception, then again this is clay so I might be silly :-)
