Question:
Can, say, Federer and Roddick become this generation’s Sampras and
Agassi?

Answer:
I just don’t think it’s about two guys any more. It’s about eight
guys. I mean, you’ve got Ferrero, Nalbandian . . . there’s just too
many good players. It’s harder to be dominant. It was also pretty hard
to be dominant when I was playing.

I disagree. Roddick and Federer, in my opinion, are at a different
level then the rest of the guys.

Federer, yes. Roddick? No. Coria and Moya have had better years than Roddick
and Moya missed the Oz Open.

Who really cares about the dirt ballers anyway. Ferrero at best is an
average hard court/fast surface player. Good bye to the clay season,
let the real players emerge.

US Open finalist, beating Hewitt and Agassi along the way, is average? Ok.

Ok.

An injured Hewitt, I might add (hip flexor). Normally, a fast hard court
favors Lleyton. I didn't mind, though, because a) it was Ferrero and b) it
set up an awesome match with Agassi!

If that is the case then Federer is in a league of his own, he has got a
slam, master cup, 2 Super 9 victories and
2 tier 2 victories compare to Roddick's victory of 1 super 9 victory and 3
minor tournament victories.

Fererro likes Rebound Ace to US Hardcourts. But he's not bad indoors,

Let's not forget he defeated Federer 64 46 64 in the Madrid semis. That's a
pretty fast court.

Yep, after a great win over Moya in the semis.

But that was a slow hard court, not lightning quick like Flushing Meadows.
Still counts in my book, though.

He predicted Roddick would win Australian (looking at Hops' chart).

Fed's slice on grass is so tough. Think that gives him the edge, but
he'll probably have to get through Henman, who he also has losing
record against.

Who is the "him" here? I look like Federer, but he's not in the same
half of the draw as Henman, so "get through" doesn't make sense. Both
Fed and Roddick have a losing record against Henman, so that isn't a

Nalbandian injuries are killing him. Despite of the time out of the
courts when he returns makes finals or semis. The level he was playing
along AO was amazing, he returned and maked Rome F and FO Semis.
He might be no. 2 or 1 if he were able to play the whole tour.

I know. I posted without previewing, when I read it I couldn't figure
out what I meant either!

I think Fed has the edge over both in the final, even though he has
losing record to Henman. I think it would be easier for him to beat
Roddick thoug.
Roddick doesn't seem to have much slice.

sure, you forgot. after agassi's last GS final, whenever that was, you bet
me 100$ that agassi would make another GS final, i said he wouldn't. i think
it's pretty obvious he won't. but i'll be patient for the money til andre
makes it official.

I dont know if US was a fluke but hes certainly not the great player
that everybody thinks.

It wasn't a fluke, and Roddick is a great player. I'd still take Safin over
him though.

I used to feel that way to. But now, I think Roddick has surpassed
Safin.

Actually, it's 1-6, because the other loss is a retirement so we can't make
too much of that. And functionally it was 0-5 until this year, and it's 1-2
during Fed's hot streak, and 0-1 on grass, and 0-1 at Wimbledon

Fed absolutely pasted Tim at Indian Wells though... I was wondering
how the heck he had gotten so many matches off the guy.

Well, officially it's 2-6. And anyone who saw Fed play today had to
be scared.
54 minutes, maybe a record for a completed best of 5. And the
Wimbledon loss was 3 years ago.

Sure. Hard to get to #1 without being great.

Safin was never yr-end No.1 - thank god. Apes don't deserve that
honour.....

edit: oh, I guess that was the "lucky one time" you meant. I thought
you meant he was lucky getting to the AO final... nevermind.

Funny thing is, Sampras doesn't look anything like an ape.

Still, Sampras ruined a good chance to make men's tennis more interesting by
not shooting the shit back at Andre. We could have used a good old Mac/Jimmy
or Mac/Lendl type "i hate his guts" rivalry in the 90s...

Whole argument is pointless. Mental or physical attributes are irrelevant
.. only results on court matter. Safin would have deserved #1 in 2000 had
Agassi beaten Guga in ATP final, and Pete certainly deserved all his #1s.

Sampras is a class act. Sampras does resemble an ape, & Agassi a
monkey..........
