I noticed nobody put results of Louisiana Open last weekend on the
newsgroup. I wasn't there, but here are the basic results, as near as I
can remember second-hand. All matches, even final of Open, were best of
3!

Men's Singles: Final: David Zhuang d. Razvo Cretu, 2-0; SF: Cretu d.
Cheng Yinghua (!), 2-0; Zhuang d. Sean Lonergan, 2-0.

Allstar Men's Singles: Cheng Yinghua & David Zhuang had to leave for
airport, and so split the final. SF: Cheng d. Razvan Cretu, 2-0; Zhuang
d. ?

Women's Allstar Singles: Gao Jun d. Jasna Reed.

Sean Lonergan had a great tournament, with wins over Jim Butler, Gao
Jun, Eric Owens (they split matches), Derek May and Barney J. Reed.

Yes, Sean had a great tournament, but he lost a close match to Victor
Subonji in the quarterfinals. David beat Vic in the semis.

I'm glad to hear Sean beat Jim on Sunday. Jim wasn't having his best
tournament, and Sean was. I'll just add that those wins over Gao
Jun and Derek May were firsts for him, and he beat Barney twice!

It was a great tournament, but they need more players to show up
next year. Y'all go down there in '98, y'hear?

I posted it once already, but it may be worth repeating
in case somebody missed it.
The results from the last Louisiana Open are posted at
http://math.lsu.edu/~bogdan/tt/tournament.html
Indeed, some of the results are interesting and many
of the matches were spectacular.

Looks like many of the finals were interesting! The "Hot Shots" decided
to split the prize money. What's wrong with a tournament condition
stipulating "no play finals, no prize money?" Let those folks try that
gimmick at the Nationals or the USOTC's.
