THE HOUSTON CITY FOOSBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
-- Local Tournament to Draw Top Table Soccer Players from Across North
America --
Houston, Texas – Up to 100 table soccer (a.k.a. "foosball")
enthusiasts and professionals, including several members of the World
Cup-winning U.S. National Team, are already gearing up to compete in
the annual Houston City Foosball Championships to be held July 17-19th
at SRO Sports Bar, 444 Northwest Mall, here in Houston, TX.
The competition is likely to draw match-ups between numerous top-
ranked players, like local favorite and World Cup Champion Tracy
McMillin, of Houston, TX and World #2-ranked Ryan Moore, of Lexington,
KY, among others. Women’s competition will include some of the best
in the world as well, with noted champions Gena Murray of Ft. Worth,
TX and Cindy Head of Sterrett, AL leading the field.
At the Master level, players are competing not just for $5,000+ in
cash and prizes at the event, but also for qualifying points to
compete at the International Table Soccer Federation (ITSF) World
Championship Finals in France at the end of the year. This means
world-ranked players from as far away as Canada and Costa Rica could
be also competing for the singles and doubles titles. And with many
top Masters playing exceptionally strong after USA’s decisive victory
at the ITSF World Cup of Table Soccer earlier this year, the matches
at the Houston City Championships are sure to be extremely intense!
Opening events begin at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17th.
Competition will include numerous categories for men and women from
beginner to Master, and specialty events such as “Draw Your Partner
Doubles” and “3500 Limited.” Play will be continuous throughout the
weekend, with most finals matches occurring Sunday night. The
tournament is open to press and spectators, and there is no admission
fee to enter the tournament area. Players of every skill level can
register for events on site (sign-ups close one hour before each
event), and all competition will take place on Tornado Table Soccer™
tables made by Texas’ own Valley-Dynamo, Inc.
Sponsors of the event include the SRO Sports Bar (444 Northwest
Mall, Houston, TX 77092) and numerous others, while sponsors of the
U.S. National Team include Tornado Table Soccer™, Sebastian Custom
Warm-ups and Foosball.com.
Other 2009 Pro Tour events are scheduled to take place around the
world, with players from over 50 countries training for further ITSF
tournaments in the Czech Republic, Germany, India, Japan, Malaysia,
Mexico, Poland, Romania, UAE, the UK and others. Featured among those
will be the $100,000 Tornado Table Soccer World Championship Series,
to be held in Grapevine, TX, USA on September 2-7th. Altogether, this
year’s 50-tournament ITSF Tour may be the largest worldwide table
soccer pro tour ever!
