1. Chen Yan 4:05.00 AR 4:12.19 4
2. Wang Luna 4:07.86 4:14.90 5
3. Chen Hua 4:09.56 4:12.60 4

7. Zhu Yingwen 4:14.41 4:13.94 6
8. Sha Sha 4:17.57 4:14.25 4
The new swimming sensation Chen Yan cruised to a new Asian Record of
4:05.00 which, if I'm not
wrong, is the 2nd fastest time ever in this event, 1.15 sec off the World
Record of 4:03.85. Second-placed
Wang Luna's time is also under the old Asian Record of 4:09.22 and the old
Games record of 4:10.56.
Wang Luna was under the WR pace during the 100m, splitting 59.83 while
Chen Yan followed 1.21s
behind her. The tall and slim Chen Yan then piled on the pressure in the
next 100m to come within
0.13s. By the third 100, she was already in the lead and pulled away
further in the last 100 to clock an
amazing time.
100m Backstroke Final Heats Heats No.
----------------------
1. Zhen Yingjuan 1:00.22 1:01.20 4
2. He Cihong 1:01.36 1:02.21 4
3. Lu Donghua 1:02.07 1:02.66 3
4. Chen Yan 1:02.38 1:02.79 5
5. Wu Xuejia 1:02.64 1:02.92 3
6. Zhou 1:03.35 1:03.14 3
7. Cong Jing 1:04.05 1:03.23 3
8. Chi Yanping 1:04.20 1:03.29 5
In this battle between the world-record holder and SC world champions,
Zhen Yingjuan emerged
a surprise winner. 4 years ago, the then 15-yr-old Zhen Yingjuan won a
bronze medal in these Games
in a time of 1:02.62. She now broke the Games record of 1:00.96 held by He
Cihong to set the 2nd
fastest time ever in this event. Her 50m split was 29.08, 0.46s within WR
pace, very much in front
of the others but couldn't sustain that momentum to the end of the race.
He Cihong returned to the world stage with a good performance and is now
favourite to take the
200m title with her better strokes. She had been plagued by recurring
ailment and did poorly at the
Atlanta Olympics, finishing way off her Trials time and her training times.
The two short-course world champions, Lu Donghua and Chen Yan did well
but their performances
in the 50m pool are still not enough to topple the more experienced.
4x100m Freestyle Final Heats Heats No.
------------------------
1. Shanghai 3:42.30 3:48.65 2
( Cai Huijue 56.32

Le Jingyi - )
2. People's Liberation Army 3:44.59 3:50.20 1
( Yu Jie 56.98
Pu Yiqi 57.48
Xia Jing 56.70
Shan Ying 53.43 )
3. Guangdong 3:44.80 3:48.65 1
( Zheng Xi 56.82
Zeng Meitao 57.26
Zhen Yingjuan 56.45
Sun Guiling 54.27 )
4. Jiangsu 3:47.64 3:52.08 2
( Mi Tong 57.66
Guo Wei 56.40
Shen Dan 58.25
Nian Yun 55.33 )
The Shanghai team set a new Games record and World Best Club Relay
Record by 0.08s.
Shan Ying anchoring for the Liberation Army, might have clocked a best ever
freestyle relay split of
53.43, unless Le Jingyi's split time, which was unavailable, was even
better.
Sun Guiling, the 100m freestyle bronze medalist at this Games, also
recorded an excellent relay split
of 54.27. Nian Yun of Jiangsu appears to be recovering her form, with a
good 55.33 anchor leg.
<snip bogus results>
Where were these swimmers during the Pan Pacs. For them to come out of
the wood work only at their national championships (read:anything goes
high test championships) just adds fuel to the drugging allegations.

This 4:05.00 is "suppossedly" the third fastest ever. Janet Evans
swam the WR of 4:03.85 in 88, and swam a 4:04.53 at the Pan Pacs,
Tokyo, in 89. THese Chinese Nationals are really starting to piss me
off, I was really looking forward to Perth in january, but now it
looks like it will be a joke like Rome in 94.
Brian
More bullshit. The National Games is a big things for them.
