Looks like he's going to chill for a bit, but be interesting to see
where he goes next. Has to be England or Spain, can't see him with any
other team in La Liga.

Also be interesting to see where Barca go from here.

That should read "England or Italy," not Spain.

Chelsea, City or Man U for England.

For Man U I think they'll want someone either groomed in-house, or
personally selected by SAF, or a proven coach on SAFs level (only
about three to five possibilities there).

Juve, Inter or Roma in Italy?

Spanish national coach? Del Bosque may retire after the Euro, and
Guardiola would not be an unreasonable choice.

It will be difficult to maintain the dominance of Guardiola's
years, but they will not drop back to the level they were between
98 and 02 or so.

They can't afford him. Plus the old fart is not ready to die yet.

Roma definitely not, don't know Juve's financial state, so maybe one
of the Milan clubs?

I'd be surprised if it was anyone outside of Chelsea or Man City, the
guy stands to be the richest manager of all time.

90% sure he's taking a year (or two) off. He always said he'd like to return to Brescia and/or Roma.

His assistant Vilanova (the one Mou tried to pop an eye off) is taking over so expect more of the same.

I don't think he'll go to Brescia unless they're in Serie A, Roma have a long term plan already. Milan are after him so it might be a possibility. Berlusconi has shown his disappointment in Allegri.

I can't see him drop to such lowly stations as the next stop after
being at the top of the planet for 4 years. Maybe he'll head there in
his older years?

Is he being seen as a stop-gap or being given the full backing?

Fully backed by both Pep and prez Rosell. No idea on contract terms yet.

Could take over from Del Bosque after Spain gets turfed ignominiously
out of Euro 2012, I suppose. That is not a high probability event, but
it is certainly possible.

Barcelona B is still doing very well, so perhaps their coach (Sacristán)
for continuity. Or maybe bring back Luis Enrique?

Completely expected.

A team that should've won everything two goals clear won NOTHING.

Complete and utter failure = bye bye coach.

You really don't have a clue, do you? His teams have won 13 trophies.

This decision was made in December.

And could've been completely avoided if the 2011-12 Barca season wasn't a joke.

UCL, home league, league cup -- they literally should've won it ALL!!!

Just a reminder, Barcelona have already won this season:

UEFA Super Cup (v Porto)
Supercopa (Spanish) (v Real Madridx2)
FIFA Club World Cup (v Santos)

Plus have made the Semi Finals of the UCL for a record time...
Sit Second in the league and still a chance of winning it...
To play in the Final of the Copa del Rey

Far from this "failure" notion... just ask go and ask Levante or Mallorca if
they'd swap seasons, heck even Madrid!!!

Still a failure. No league title, no UCL title (both they should've won easily with minimal motivation)...

It certainly came as a shock to Barcelona this year.

I'd say it was even earlier. It took Rosell a lot to talk Pep into signing a year extension after 10-11.

I.e. nothing.

Yes, the season is only disappointing in the context of the last 3
years.

Out of interest, this is exactly what happened in the Football Manager
2012 "All Around the World" simulation I've been running. Spain
knocked out of Euro 2012 in the first round, Guardiola took over as
Spain manager. The only difference is in that "World" Barca completed
the La Liga and Champions League double this season.

Nothing would be what Hamburg and Arsenal have won...

HSV has won nothing since 1987, and that includes UIC and Super
Cup/League Cup wins in the years between. Glorified friendlies and
qualification tournaments don't count.

Holy crap... I wasn't even born when they won their last major honour
then!!!

OO

I though seven years was a long time (and it is) may it come to an end
soon!!!

Is there a contingency plan set just in case Vilanova endures a tough start
to the season, or will his position be safe for at least the entire season?
Or is it a complete charade and is someone being looked at, just cannot be
annouced just yet... for instance, someone like del Bosque, wouldn't that be
amazing?!

Thanks, but it won't. With this season a complete rebuild was started,
it'll take several years to just compete for a European slot.
Challenging for titles is just off the scale. We can't compete
financially with Bayern, and we can't with Schalke, Bayer, VW or Hopp.
This will improve in the second half of the decade when the stadium
contract has been paid off, but it will only narrow the gap.

Our youth system isn't good enough - we regularly produce professionals,
but they are only second league level.
