Well, the winning President won the popular vote in 5 of the last 6
elections, only exception being Gore in 2000. Since 4 of those 5 were
Democrats, you are correct about the popular vote winning trend:
Clinton, Clinton, Gore, Bush, Obama, Obama.

I think it just implies that overall Democrats won their seats
healthily, while Repub victories were closer, very generally speaking
of course.
One shocking fact this year: Romney won less of the Mormon vote than
Bush did last time!
