And yes I am aware Xabi Alonso and Nani were expensive signings but they
didn't play in this match.

We're comparable to Chelsea and United except in our LW, RW and
support striker position.
Kewell (the current cripple unfit version)/Benayoun and Kuyt is a HUGE
gulf in class compared to Malouda/J. Cole/Shevhchenko or Giggs/Ronaldo/
Tevez. My fix for that is to move Gerrard the the right side of
midfield - he doesn't have to play as a winger, let him cut in or
whatever. Then get some genuine width on the left-wing.
On paper Arsenal are not that much better, but some of their players
like Rosicky are playing out of this world. Speaking of which, if
you do XI + bench for the EPL top teams with the qualification that no
player could've cost double digits in pounds, Chelsea lose less than
Manchester United? I was shocked to find that out as the perception is
that Chelsea illegitimately bought their way to success and have
unfair advantages. Also Arsenal lose no starters, they lose Walcott
from the bench I think.
It's not just money as Leiva and Babel IMO are just as good as
Anderson and Nani.
What we need is a good winger (or to ditch 4-4-2) and for Kuyt to stop
playing crap. I saw Fairclough describing him the other day, as a
good team players, "who works very hard and runs unselfishly for the
team". You know you can't get any lower when that's the best thing
somebody can say about a striker. What next, they'll be calling him
"big and strong" or "perfect foil" (ugh)?
I wouldn't say "money" per se, but we probably need one more
blockbuster signing.
The point in posting these figures, which has completely gone over you head,
was to show Mourinho wasn't the only coach to 'buy' a title.
Of course he wasn't.
I am fully aware of that, and in fact was where my XI + Bench idea
came from.
Everyone knows which clubs fans moaned the loudest about integrity and
buying success in 2004. The same fans who by the way think the most
prestigious trophy in club football is a "glorified lottery".
> On paper Arsenal are not that much better, but some of their players

With Rosicky, Fabregas and maybe Hleb Arsenal have 3 midfielders who are
better than anything Liverpool have to offer.

They do have an unfait avantage as a) they didn't earn the money they
spent and as b) they can top offers of all other clubs.

I find the whole business of religion profoundly interesting. But it
does mystify me that otherwise intelligent people take it seriously.
Douglas Adams
Mascherano is a better destroyer than any of the Arsenal players, maybe
one of the best in the world. Is he right for liverpool is a bigger
question, a destroyer is a necessity when the team has a highly
techical, creative type on the field, one who cant tackle to save his
life (like Pirlo, Iniesta etc.). Gerrard really doesnt need cover in
that department.
Xabi is nowhere near his best, he was phenomenal two seasons ago. If he
gets back to form, Fabregas better watch out. And still, when he is one
the pitch, Liverpool play a better, more intelligent game.
Hleb has been nothing special for two(?) seasons in the EPL, only this
season has he started showing his brilliance. Lets not get carried away
with him yet. Pretty much the same goes for Rosicky, but he hasnt been
that special even this season. Wouldnt take either of them over SG/JM/XA
(and maybe not even LL), not before they have shown their quality for
longer than 1/3 of a season.
I'm more envious of players like RVP, Eboue, Gallas and Clichy, as they
are the problem areas for pool (if Sami got injured today, we are
screwed...).

Good analysis. For all the talk in the last couple of seasons about
Arsenal being "better" than Liverpool, for some reason they haven't
been able to finish with more pts than Liverpool in the EPL in that
period. I doubt this season will be any diffferent either. The teams
are equal in ability.
I guarantee you that if Benetiz gets more money he will be buying more
foreigners to fuel his team.
..and?
and nothing. It speaks for itself.
Good for him.
I thought you had decided to stop trolling ?
I contributed knowledge to this topic, while you've just stalked me
into another thread. What was that about trolling Jallore?
:))

one more rip off
Confirming once again that English players are over priced for their
real value.
Wrong Mr Troll, it is you who consistently introduce anti-English bile
into whatever thread takes your fancy for the sake of provoking
posters.
Why are you so concerned as long as Barca don't buy one of your
"overpriced" English players.
I wonder if Sir AF would describe the above three as rip-offs ?
I protest to you calling me a troll when all I did was contribute to
the current thread, unlike yourself who only seems content on stalking
me and hanging on every last words that I say. In fact it is only your
behavior which is provocative, and therefore you are the pot calling
the kettle black, and another in the long list of hypocrites who
feature in this newsgroup.
You are clearly disturbed for some strange reason.
And, you impulsive muppet, bile is for emulsifying fats...can't I be
pancreatic enzymes or something that digests protein instead?
Don't worry, Barca won't do something silly like that. Instead we'll
sell Ronaldinho when his price tag is high and buy some real talent
for half the price of the players above.
> I wonder if Sir AF would describe the above three as rip-offs ?
Anyone would.
Mate you can protest as much as you want, in fact I think you do
protest too much ! If I am disturbed it is because of trolls like you
who spew forth garbage whenever possible regarding the English and the
EPL.
You can be whatever you want to be laddie as long as you do it in a
balanced and fair manner. However I do think from what I have seen
that this is beyond you.
Now if you are not a troll you will do everyone a favour and refuse to
reply to me. The ball is in your court, how about you smash it over
fence ?
Isn't it stange how all the rip-offs happen to be English ?
No, it's because they just are not worth that money. You'll have a
very hard time convincing even those in this group that Ferdinand is
worth even 20mill these days, muppet boy. It owes to the fact that the
English over hype their players and put them way beyond their real
market value. That is all. It's the same song and dance. Hype hype
hype....I think Snoop Dog had something to say about that. Kids your
age should know what I am referring to, ya?
You are not as clever as you think. Trying to bind me with a
ridiculous consequence that no one other than yourself is going to put
any weight on is not going to silence me you muppet. Whether you like
it or not I will continue to hang around and smash myths such as those
that have a death grip on your mind. Eventually you will thank me for
liberating you.
I am 52 yrs old loser. As I have said no Man Utd supporter, least of
all Sir AF have ever quibbled at the price of their players, least of
all the ones you have mentioned. Rooney is a hero to the Man Utd fans
and they adore Rio. Why should it bother you Barca fan ? The fact you
would even mention it indicates that you are a troll.
Look, there's no reason to be so harsh on yourself just because you're
taking a beating from me Jallore.

ob·sess (əb-sěs', ŏb-) Pronunciation Key

To preoccupy the mind of excessively.
v. intr.
To have the mind excessively preoccupied with a single emotion or

It is clear that you have a very high opinion of yourself, which is
just as well because everyone else thinks you are..........well let us
just say otherwise.
It's also clear that I possess a greater deal of football knowledge in
one pubic hair than you and Higgs in your whole bodies combined.
> which is just as well because everyone else thinks you are..........well let us

You can't intimidate me with games that school children play. Are you
sure you're 52? You sure don't seem to act like it.
Well they say you are only as old as you feel.
Intimidation ? Oh please grow up, now who is acting like a school
boy ?
Yeah, you'll need new threats other than "you're a troll and everyone
knows it". Everyone does not know it, or care either, but what is well
known is how often I've had to school you on football related matters.
Look, get over it. You're now just upset because I've accurately
ascertained that Benitez won't look at home-grown English players if
and when he does get more cash to spend. He'll certainly be looking at
foreigners first.
Time to get over it.
I couldn't care less who Benitez wants to buy. Clearly it upsets you
that he might go looking into Europe as opposed to England.
Why would that upset me? In case you haven't noticed, I already
delivered that news for you.
Why continually harp on about foreigners in the EPL if it doesn't
bother you then ? No one else is, least of all me, who happens to
think they are a real asset and indicative of it's rising status.

Two points:
1) what happened to the theory that Man Utd would not get enough money
to spend after the Glazers took over ?
2) This "fiscal imbalance" looks severe with the above lineups, but if
you take into consideration that Man Utd won the title last year without
Nani, Anderson, and Hargreaves, it doesn't look quite so one-sided.
And some of United's expensive buys (notably Ferdinand, Ronaldo )
predate Benitez's spending spree.
If you take only spending since Summer 2004, and subtract revenue from
sale of players, the gap might be more reasonable.

They've restructured their debts. Hopefully it’s only a matter of time before
the bastards are bankrupt.
There could be many other reasons. Why would you think it bothers me?
I think its most amusing that the "English" premier league needs
foreigners to be competitive in Europe :))
> No one else is, least of all me, who happens to

Then you agree that the EPL should be aptly renamed to the EbFPL.
I thought so.
]
You also have to take in consideration that the above amounts are way
incorrect and United actually took in more money than they spent this
past summer with sales of Richardson, Smith, Rossi, Hienze. The
Glazers have yet to spent one penny of their own money on player
transfers and are actually still in the black in that department.
RED DEVIL
It could well happen and would be a good thing if it got rid of the
Glazers however I'm sorry to disappoint you but the club is
anticipating operating profits to almost double from their 2005-06
levels of £46.3m in 2006-07 (over 90 million). So far the new owners
haven't spent one penny of their money on new transfers, nor have they
borrowed any for buying players but simply funded them out of
outgoing transfer fees, and they are still in the black there. Nani
and Anderson came for a combined total of 16 million up front with an
undisclosed balance dependent on International caps and domestic
trophies to possibly be paid in future years. Carrick cost 13.8
million again with some dependancy on acheivements the details of
which have not been released that "could" push his cost to 18 m .
They still had money from the sale of RVN and then collected this
year from Ritchardson, Smith, Hienze, Obi Mikel and Rossi. They also
got a windfall from the David Beckham sale when Real Madrid won the
title!
I hate the Glazers but the club is doing just fine so far.
