Alberto told me about a simple idea of his. In this moment, it's just
a matter of discussion, not the proposal for a rule change.

He asks: is it fair that a cap or a goal in a friendly has the same
weight of a cap/goal e.g. in the WC? (In this moment, they have the
same weight)

The solution could obviously be to assign different weights to
different competitions. Given the current set of NTs, all the eligible
players have in theory good chance - assuming that they are good
enough to make their NT's starting XI - to play in WCs or Euros (we
can't pick players from San Marino...).

But obviously there would be some cons, e.g.:
- It wouldn't be easy to choose the exact weight for each competition:
friendlies, WC and qualifications, Euros and qualifications, Copa
America, Confederations Cup.
- It would be necessary to update the score match by match. It's what
I do now, but in theory under the current rules it would be possible
to discontinue the update for 10 years, and then quickly compute all
the scores (you just have to check for each player the number of caps
and international goals).

Your opinion?

Another idea by Alberto: to reward wins and/or to not assign points
for losses. This obviously makes sense only coupled with the
"different weights" idea: we would reward a win not in a friendly
against Andorra, but just in competitions that matter.

Not really, but I wouldn't change things.

By the way, the whole discussion we had back then on the appropriate scoring
system has made me think much more carefully about which players to select
(and I still owe you an explanation of the optimal choosing strategy). I
have a couple of names on the radar screen, but I'm not sure whether it's
the right time to pick yet. And we have time until Dec 31, right?

Thanks for the feedback.

I can wait. And I know that, when you'll write it down, it will be
legen - wait for it - dary.

Yeah: at least two players before Dec 31. (But only players picked
until Jul 31 will count for your unofficial 2009-10 score.)
