Pick for each position the player that you are sure will be the best
next season.

For each position, you can pick one or more player. 3 days to vote.

Do we have to pick from your lists or can we substitute players or move
them to positions we prefer them at ?

Some glaring omissions from your lists include Bale and Schweini, and of
course Super Mario.

Pique
Lahm

I have accepted both unlisted and out-of-positions players last year,
and I'll do it again. Let's say that moving players around the field
isn't a fostered behaviour, but just because it could happen that a
player doesn't make the XI despite having a lot of votes.

And Van Persie!!! I have sticked to last year quick selection method
(BTW, Schweinsteiger _almost_ make the cut), but as I wrote I'm very
aware of its limits.

It is quite interesting? Are the players based on panini stickers you
are missing from your booklet? Like your first pick, Adler? He is not
even playing and even if he does come back from injury, he will have
lost his spot to the teenager Leno. If you had included ter Stegen I
would pick him to do well next year or no, maybe in a few years? but
since it is late or early depending on where I am and I had a glass of
wine or two this evening. I am going to pick Ron Robert Zieler! Lets
say Neuer gets injured before the Euro's and Zieler comes in to
replace him on the national team (sort of like how Neuer came in for
Adler) and Germany win the final in a shoot out with Zierler the hero.
yeah i am just a sucker for those kind of stories.

I dont like any of those guys and I am pretty sure I cannot apply the
same story to Riether that I just did to Zieler? All thse guys are old
as well? Though Puyol is more a central player, I will pick him.
Captain of the Euro champions before retiring.
Kompany will win the EPL and Hummels will keep improving.

When Spurs win the EPL ( yeah I am not so drunk that i do not realize
I have contradicted myself) Scott Parker will be the hero and Capello
will have to pick him for the English team that go on to win the
Euro's with him scoring the winning penalty vs Zieler. ah i just love
those underdog stories

I have gone this far with the Euro 2012 hero story, may as well go one
more? Which one do I pick though\? I am a sucker for the underdog, so
Ibrahimovic the hero scoring the penalty on Ron Robert Zieler in the
final to win the cup

Hmm. Would it not make more sense to allow people to choose between
several formations (a la miniger) and fill in the players they thought
have recently been outstanding and will likely continue to be so.
Then you could just tabulate which players had been mentioned most
often, and perhaps shoehorn them into what ever formation fitted those
players best...

Eg. allow 3-5-2 , 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 3-4-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-3-2-1, 4-4-1-1 etc.

Many of your players are listed at odd positions, or at least arguably
not at their best positions.

Here is my entry based on a 4-4-2, with all players in what I consider
to be realistic places (i.e. they HAVE played there)

Neuer

Lahm Kompany Pique Bale (his regular position for wales, and
formerly for spurs)

C. Ronaldo Schweinsteiger Yaya Toure Silva

Messi Van Persie

I will also make an "official" entry based purely on your lists.

(My subs bench would have:

F: Aguero
M: Iniesta, Xavi, Boateng
D: Richards, Pique
GK: Vorm

Lousy selection. Maicon the best of a bad bunch but even then not based
on recent form. Puyol maybe 5 years ago at this position.

Hummels, Kompany. This is a better selection as Thiago Silva and Pique
are also very strong. Vidic would be up there too but not on recent
injured form,

Xavi, although he is getting very long in the tooth to predict he will

Again, R. ROnaldo does not really belong as a striker (or does he) ? He
was a right midfielder, switching a lot to left, in the past. Also
maybe a wide forward in a 4-3-3. Does Mourinho really use him as an out
and out striker? I think not because either Benzema or Higuain is
usually on the pitch too.

My choice here would be Aguero, but I would rate Van Perise, on recent
form , ahead of him

I can't speak for milivella, but I don't rate Dani Alves at RD myself.

At RM, AMR, RW etc., whole different story.

That said, considering the other RDs in this poll selection, Dani Alves
could well be in there for sure.

Yeah. Neuer has already made some unforgiveable errors. All goalies do
that from time to time, but he only seems to do it when it matters.
He's a sort of Gomes in waiting ;-)

> And I already know, my selection sucks.

This method was conceived to solve a problem:

(a) If one asks people to tell the best player in each position, a
player could be voted by everyone and still not make the cut. Example:
RW Robben 50%, Messi 34%
AM Iniesta 50%, Messi 33%
ST C.Ronaldo 50%, Messi 33%
(notice that 100% of the surveyees voted Messi)

But the method I opted for has its own problems. Your criticisms (that
I fully agree with) are:

(b) Some players are listed out of position.

(c) The shortlists are very debatable.

Is it possible to solve (b) and (c), while avoiding (a)? Yes, of
course. Specifically I plan to use the following method next year:

"Who is in your opinion the best player in the world in each of the
following positions? If according to you a player is the best in the
world in more than one position, vote him in all of them."

E.g. if you think that Messi is the best AM *and* the best ST in the
world, you'll vote:
AM Messi
ST Messi

This way we'll know the best player in each position. To make it a
"realistic" team, if a player is the best in more than one position,
he'll "play" in the position where the second player has least votes.

So e.g. if the list is:
AM Messi 10, Iniesta 7
ST Messi 10, C.Ronaldo 5
The team will be:
AM Iniesta
ST Messi

This way, all the problems are solved:

(a) It can't happen that a player is voted by everyone and still
doesn't make the cut.

(b), (c) There is no shortlist.

Maybe i misunderstood your game?

I was under the impression you were NOT asking who is the best player
now. But who you think will be the best player of 2012? Some of my
drunken picks were based on players who will do well next year in the
Euro Cup for example.

Of course my picks may be seen as outrageous, but I found it very hard
to take seriously when I saw Sebastian Kehl's name listed.

You didn't misunderstand. As a matter of fact the phrasing that I've
noted down for next year is:
"Name for each position the player that you are sure will be the best
in the world next season."

> Of course my picks may be seen as outrageous, but I found it very hard

That was part of the "2001 world class players" sub-text: Buffon,
Zanetti, Nesta, Kehl, Gerrad, Lampard, Riquelme, Ronaldinho, Totti,
etc. :)
