Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd is set to approach Tottenham this
week for fresh talks over fullback Stephen Carr.

A bid is imminent for the Republic of Ireland international, who is entering
the final year of his contract at White Hart Lane.

Carr wants to start the season with Spurs following the arrival of new coach
Jacques Santini, but Tottenham management will be reluctant to allow him to
stay without committing himself to a new contract.

Newcastle are expected to offer £1.5 million for the right-back.
