If I understand this correctly, this may not necessarily have to be
before a game. They are proposing the sacrifice as a "blessing ritual"
for each WC venue. The time is not specified, but it think the
implication is that this could happen any time prior to a stadium
first being used.
Either way, it's a major PR situation for FIFA. Animal rights groups
are already calling attention to the issue, while some elements in the
SA government are going to claim a domestic right to do this. I think
FIFA will end up winning this one, if push comes to shove.

As I said in my other post, the timing will be key. If this is done in
a small ceremony days or weeks before a WC game is played at a venue,
then FIFA may have to submit on grounds of this being a local custom
which is not actively interfering with the competition. If on the
other hand this is being proposed as part of the pre-game ceremonies,
FIFA will almost certainly not give in and and be within their rights
to not do so.

The article says that it is a ceremony to be performed at each stadium ahead
of the tournament, which makes me wonder why FIFA had to be involved at all.

Killing a cow before a game also has nothing to do with football. This
next World Cup is going to be riddled with crap like this violence and
murders. Blatter made an error going there. South Africa was not ready
for this.

Have you ever been to South Africa? Perhaps it's not as "backward" as
you think. Do you think that the practice of animal sacrifice does
not go on in the US and Europe. Is ritual sacrifice, practiced in
South Africa, as barbaric as bullfighting? Do you eat meat? Have you
ever been to a slaughter house?
