Grêmio lost several chances (the story of their season) before
Kléber rounded two markers on the right and crossed for
Wellington Paulista to complete with an easy tap-in. Very soon
after that, Jonathan sent a long ball from the right, Grêmio failed
to set an offside trap and Wellington headed completely free
past Victor to kill the series. Réver headed in a corner to reduce
the deficit. Adílson got a straight red for a violent last man foul,
leaving the hosts a man down. Souza avoided a double defeat
with a beautiful long range strike.
Cruzeiro meet Estudiantes (La Plata-ARG) in the finals. They
met in group phase and shared spoils: Cruzeiro 3-0 in Belo
Horizonte, Estudiantes 4-0 in Argentina. Cruzeiro have two
Libertadores titles, Estudiantes have three.
