With one round to go, the top-4 teams of the Brasilian Championship
are already known. Vasco received the trophy today at the Maracanã,
after a 0-1 loss to Portuguesa, whose slim hopes to earn transfer to
The Other Brasilian League were finished off by the other results of
the round. Figueirense choked badly at home, losing to Duque de
Caxias, and bowed out of the race as well. This benefitted Guarani,
who also guaranteed their transfer even by losing to Bahia (who are
now cleared of relegation worries). With away victories, Ceará and
Atlético-GO also ensured their top-4 spots, the latter putting
Juventude in trouble, as they entered the relegation zone with one
round to go.

At the bottom, apart from Juventude, there are three other teams who
still have something to play for in the last round: América-RN,
Ipatinga and Brasiliense. Fortaleza lost at home to São Caetano and
are relegated to Serie C, and the battle for 19th place saw Campinense
leaving the bottom of the table to ABC.
