Is there just one more manager than manager positions available? How many
sackings does it take to end a manager's career? Any other profession can
boast the signing of plush contracts despite having been sacked a few times
before? Any other important questions I forgot?

True, but it is for a slightly different job than the one they were sacked
for (whoring for private interests that want to gain access/knowledge)

Even within the head of government role there are examples: Netanyahu,
Benazir, etc.

University administrators. OK, so they are rarely actually sacked
(kicked upstairs or laterally transferred).

True enough, now that you mention it. Any that were sacked more than once?

Andreotti, and it's no slip this time. But even better, and more
germane to the NG? Berlusconi!

Benazir was ousted twice and would've seen her third term had she not
been assasinated.

What an incredible life story.

I forgot that Burlesconi was prime minister in 1994-95. I guess it isn't
surprising that episodic repeats be more common in parliamentary systems.

I bet this kind of shuffling is not uncommon in the private sector as well.

Well Harold Wilson and Winston Churchill and Pierre Trudeau were all
booted out by the voters, then subsequently reinstated , as was McKenzie
King.

More analagous to the football situation would be various cabinet
shuffles in parliamentary systems. Ministers screw up, get fired, spend
some time on the back benches, then appear again in a new cabinet
portfolio a few months later.
