I know I might provoke the ire of my fellow Celts, however the top
tier in "English" football has always essentially been British in
character, in terms of players and coaches/managers. There have always
been a fair % of Scots, Irish and Welsh players/coaches, long before
the EPL came about. Nothing changes as you can see there are 13 of the
20 coaches who are British.

Yet there are more managers from the Celtic fringes of the British
Isles (combined population around 12 million) than there are from
England (population 50 million).
When it comes to success of English/non-English managers the disparity
is even more remarkable.

English coaches with Scottish coaches etc etc.

Yes I was, I didn't know till now that he's from Northern Ireland! But
technically he's still Irish, though not a national of the Republic :-)

Not necessarily true. Take the 1984/85 season for example (arbitrarily
chosen because it was the season I started following the English
league in earnest), out of the 22 Division One managers, 19 were
English, 2 were Irish, and 1 was a Scot.
You know the country is not producing coaching quality when Redknapp
and Allardyce are among the most esteemed local managers.
Top English managers is slowly becoming a critically endangered
species.

I agree with much that you say, however the big difference now as
opposed to the early 80s is the fact that English clubs have a much
better choice of who coaches them. Back then it was basically limited
to those from Britain, now they can cast their net wide and far,
especially if they have the money to do so. The EPL operates as part
of the global market, the old English First division did not. This
being the case it is that much harder for English coaches to get the
nod.

Once again that was not the point of my post, as well you know Paul. I
agree, as I said that there is a dearth of top quality English
coaches. I am saying that the situation is compounded by the nature of
the game today.

all in big debt and cheat to sign players. The English Premier League
should really be called The Enbattled Premier League. Stop trying to
make it sound like England is good when their league is good (by

Ireland, but look at the number of Scottish players in his squad - you

Funny that as I thought I saw two Englishman in the FIFA XI the other
day.
The English players in the EPL are doing very nicely at present. Other
than Arsenal all of the top 6 or 7 teams have Englishman as essential
components of their teams. Not for the first time, and I am sure it
won't be the last time either, you have been caught talking absolute
shite.
