Kanada is looking to win a Stanley cup for the first time in close to
20 years. Vancouver has a chance to do it! I have to admit I feel no
closeness to Vancouver, outside of maybe the funny cigarette tobacco
they produce? I feel a lot closer to the people in Winnipeg for
example. They are my western neighbours ( kinda like saying Moscow is
Paris' eastern neighbour) But like us and just east of us around
Montreal we are all suffering from flooding rivers. I really should
not complain considering they are purposely flooding homes around
Winnipeg to save Winnipeg. I dont know how I would feel if they told
me they would have to flood my cottage to save Montreal? I guess as
long as I get my James Last albums and Goethe books out I would be OK?
I know they are getting financially compensated.

But the wife is away until Monday and i am thinking I am going to
watch another hockey game tonight. It is too cold and wet to do
anything else. Luckily I got a couple of nice days on Wednesday and
Thursday, but after that all I could do was sit inside and drink ( as
opposed to sitting outside and drinking) the river is too high to use
the boat launch to put the boats in, so it has been kinda shitty so
far.

So yes, I am at home BBQing steak and sausage ( how German) and
drinking Gruner Veltliner ( how Austrian) I must say Austrian wines
seem a lot better now than they did 20 some years ago? Or am I just
more mature and no longer drink while upside down doing a handstand on
a picnic table? Gruve ( GRUner VEltliner, get it!) is the new cool
wine to be drinking for foodies and Metrosexuals. I was a Foodie long
before the term existed, I had Henry the VIIIth type meals back when
Thai food was considered exotic. By that I mean a large variety of
different things ( as well as a large quantity of everything) and
trying to be clever and matching wines and such. In the end I always
liked a robust Chianti, a good dry Riesling and a nice Pilsner. Too
much fuss is made about wines. Not bragging, but I was at the Spanish
Ambassador's house once for a charity (maybe I was the charity?) but
we kind of thought the whole wine snobbery thing was ridiculous. If
you like, for example, A steak with a white wine, go for it, no rule
says you have to have red meat with red wine!?!?!?!? Look at me Gruve
with steak marinated in Mid eastern spices with Rum and/or beer to
follow?

That is probably why I do not want Vancouver to win? Too much
snobbery, paying a million dollars for a tiny little house in a bad
neighbourhood just is not worth it to live in Vancouver! Ocean is
cold too. OK you have no real winter by Canadian standard and yes the
Turkish cigarettes are good, but the people are all weirdos, every
single one of them, they all drink fancy coffee (even though it is not
very good) and think they know soccer!

I know nothing about San Jose, outside of knowing the way to San Jose.
But they beat Detroit, that is good enough for me. If I do not get
carried away and hit a bar or pub I will try to give some between
period commentary for all you non ice hockey people out there.

Obscure Musical Trivia Reference 1.

What Tragically Hip song was Don Cherry "air guitarin" to? Bonus
points if you can tell me something relevant about the Tragically
Hip.

So far the Canucks are coming out hitting and fast. 10min 1 st period

I was thinking how tired these teams looked compared to TB last night.
Then Vancouver made a tired looking mistake in defence and gave up a
goal

SJ 1 v Van 0 End of 1st

Quyon and I are not looking good with our Van-Bos Homer Simpson

Since then two more goals have been scored.
SJ 2 v Van 1 10 min 2nd period.

Don Cherry answered the trivia question between periods by the way. So
he wins the trivia.

Switching between this and the bulls-heat game. Looks like Niemi is
going to punish me for changing my captain from him to Luongo.

I was about to mention something about Niemmi before I went out for a
smoke, but you just did.

I can gloat after the first game and first two periods ( the Homer
Simpson TB, SJ thing). I am just not convinced I will be gloating
after this game?

The Sedin's suck!
I would not be in last place if I had been able to differentiate from
the Sundins and the Sedins.

Make it SJ 2 v Van 3

I still think SJ will win the series.

Is it safe to go from White wine to Rose to Red all in one night?

I dont think it is the actual volume consumed that is the problem, I
think as long as you drink equal parts of each they balance each
other?

Nice. So does he get a date with himself, or with you?

The radio waves do carry a little bit of CanCon over the border every
now and again!

I just youtubed it. I didn't recognize the title, but definitely
recognize the song.

Well, 26 years ago there was this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1985_Diethylene_Glycol_Wine_Scandal

This was a huge wake-up call, forcing everyone in the winemaking
industry to clear their act up and focus on producing quality instead
of mass fare.
The standard of Austrian wines has really been excellent this last
decade or so.

Ciao,
Werner
