So, this past weekend finally arrives and my bud from somewhere
Adirondak NY rolls in afternoon Saturday. Plans coming together and
I've opted out working Monday Tuseday which is a first in the last
five years. Talked my employer into riding with us Sunday and
proposed a couple ride options. Now Rob and I are all about getting
up and going whenever you feel like it and thats many hours future to
Petes meet me at six, but we do. Ol pete bit on option two and that's
what I wanted anyway so settle in for a many hour truck ride plus
breakfest at that bare bones dinner with the short fat big titted ol
lady that remembers me from last year, lol. Place called Kibby
Mountain, home of Maines future windmill farm and thats a side bar out
in the middle of prime country. Unload to a day you know is going to
be good. Half hour in and were poking through up hill tight single
track that puts you onto the American Canadian border. Good stuff
friends, such that a couple minutes later your on one peak looking off
towards several others with the border cut guarenteeing you'll get the
best view they have to offer as well. Challengless semi hard snow
with lots of rolling bumps and I'm all about taking point, seldom
looking back. Heavy backpack with camera at the bottom so few picture
proofs and that's alright becouse I got what I needed. Headed East
untill I hit an impassable portage that had me and the sideway sled
going backwards. I'm sure I could have made it but with a couple days
planned I'll leave something on the table this AM. Lots of BSing with
each other and head West to some wood road crossing. Mtn Number Seven
was the name if we kept going and I was told it was stupid steep and
what little I could see of it was grooved brown. Yeah I hit it, no
prob untill I rounded the corner. Yup steep and fallen trees and
rocks and every peice of shit a trail could throw with nowwhere to go
but up. Made, turned, came down aprehensive to say the least, wow,
good practice I guess. Rolled on to do some free ride exploration in
lots of deep virgin snows. Done, head her on out the now mud soup 13
mile hell drive with awesome views that your nearly too tired to
appreciate, and if that was my last ride of the year no bitching from
me.
Don't even remember what time we got home or went to bed and stuff
but do know I got up much later than a work day Monday and my
everthing was less than a 100%. Buddy Robs one to catch his Zs' as
any young feller should and for the sake of abbriviation we hit my
best kept secret unloading zone around 1 PM. All good becouse AM
concrete is softened and temps are easy 40 plus. Guided the way to a
hilltop I'd been bragging up since I met this feller and maybe it did
take 6 miles of mud road riding to get there but goddamer we did it
and in his own words, "I'm not a quiter". That came at mile 3 of
plowed road and it was all the incentive this boy needs. We met no
other sleds on this day, admired the hill top, and rode where no one
had yet. Damb near got in a place I couldn't get out of but did and
lots of sun, elevation 4k, good company, beer and smoke on the hill
makes a memory. Did some side bars on the way back then with the sun
setting gave the option of hitting one of my other faves, the small
slide. You want it you got it buddy and we played there untill it got
dark. Robs no pussy and you can tell the difference between someone
whom trys to impress others and someone whom trys to impress
themselves. He's got a good blend of the two, fun to watch him
challenge what he's never done. Course I like showing off and feeling
fear which led to a twilight failure that damb near sent my sled on
the fast roll to the shit pile! Wow, lost it on turn out bad and
high, luckily it stayed planted on the upside down thanks to the same
crust that near killed me. Live to tell though and 45 minutes later
load and go. Beers, food to die for, and hit the only hotel just
before 10 with minutes to spare. Lucks on our side.
Plans call for testing ones balls at the big slide on Tuesday and it
is by far the greatest challenge I've had the pleasure or stupidity of
trying. He and I rode our street bikes to this one summer day and
hiked to the top, it's bad ass! 1 PM and it's 50 degrees or better
and where ridding again. Not a mile later and check it, 8 million
deer, that was pretty cool. Continue on this third helmetless day of
minimal clothing, pfff, Rob forgot to bring gloves even lol. Well,
bottom line is on account of the many logging operations and plowed
roads, big slide is a no go which sucks but I have contingency plans.
They payed off and payed off big, temps kept climbing and so did we.
Good a day as you can get sledding the Maine hills and back to reality
by 11 PM, bed later, and you better believe Wednsday work sucked ass!!
That's my season story and I've more to say with some pictures I
think you'll like. Hopefully new to come and more past to relive,,
like it, hate it, I'm changing nothing. But you knew that.

> That said, I got minimal riding in.
I didn't even get to ride the old lady this winter!
'Bout to sell 'em both - just doubt I'd get much for the older one.
The handle bars are hanging low and the seat is kinda flat and spread
out from use.
Pffff, yeah no shit!! Should have seen the freekshow here last
night. Damb man, this is a nightmare. Alarm set for 4, shut off at
4:59, expecting lights in the drive within the next 15 minutes...
this sucks. Why, why do I do this to myself?
X6667
Friday night the under family came late and my lil girl was sporting
liquid sporting goods with intent. Hell of a fun time then 1 AM rolls
around, I crash. Alarm really did beep for 59 minutes and I woke up
half cocked but fortunately Pete was uncharactoristicaly late by 20
minutes which didn't much make a bit of difference.
I packed like I was going on a Spring ride and what a big giant
stupid ass mistake that was! Unload at 9:15 just short of the border
and the last digi sign I saw said 17 f. Had to take an ITS trail to
get to point A and it was smooth smooth and wide and fast as shit but
my face froze 2 seconds into it and that sucked. Hit the short single
track to border cut and the snow was so set up the carbides barely
left evidence. Conditions for the next couldn't tell you how many
miles were ultra tight and wicked white icey and bumpy and in several
places Im not ashamed to say, FUCKING SCARY!! For real, I can launch
off a pit wall and land half way down, yeah it scares me but compared
to one of these rock drops while feeling like I should still be in bed
sleeping it off, no, no comparison. Glad to get off the border and
hit something a bit smoother, faster, and colder. The cold part
sucked, bad. No lets go here and have all these tree branches and
saps try to take my ears off and mother fucker that beefy ass stick
just sprung out of know where and drilled me in the knee. At that
point Im pissed and my snowmobiles an 08 piece of shit that likes to
overheat every 15 minutes of putting along and yada yada finally.
Finally it all comes together and were drinking the two brewskies I
brought way up high on the hill and life would only get better if I
had each hand in a different chicks pants and another was blowing me
and yet another was sitting on my face and there was a bunch of naked
ones dancing around waiting there turn and.. sorry,, anyway, it was
good stuff and Im here to tell you theres all of 4 feet settled snow
where the sun don't shine and when we got back on the state trail head
towards the truck I rodded that sumbitch xp8rx like I hated it and it
liked it. Very fun end of day and I've got a couple good pictures of
that one too. Plans for this Saturday aren't mine but we'll try to be
more prepared and bring, just maybe, a bit more game to the table.

To be honest, I just wasn't interested this year - no desire to ride.

Love the power, like the sled, hate the problems. Anyone want to
buy it for oh I don't know say 7k,, 1800 kilometers, driven on Sundays
only..

WOW
We had a strange season here in WNY. Got pasted with snow in November
(trails did not open until Dec 19). The weekend before Christmas brought
12 - 18 of powder. Went out that Monday to virgin snow. What a way to get
back into fighting shape. Buried the sled in a mud pit that was completely
covered with snow and un detectable. Managed to get the ass end up and over
onto enough of something to walk the beast out - only filled one boot. Rode
a bit further and lost sight of the trail and ended up sinking it into waist
deep snow at the edge of a field. Now a half century of indulgences dont
leave one in the best of shape for this crap. Managed to drag the front end
over 90 degrees from where it was and got the back end up onto some snow
that I trampled down and walked it out again. Frack that - I went back to
the trailer and came home. It all melted Christmas.
The Saturday after New Years, drove to the far end of NH and picked up
another 'comfy cruiser' an 03 Legend V-1000. The following week we got about
a foot of snow, so I took the 03 out for a shakedown run. A strange thunking
vibration felt on left foot - thought to myself maybe a bearing is dried up
and needs replacing. Met up with my neighbor who has property out in the
snowbelt and off we went. About 20 miles out the drive belt shredded. Could
not for the life of me find the screw hole to thread in the belt changing
tool. Got the sled back home and up on the sled lift. Opened the hood,
removed the belt gaurd and lo and behold - there is the blasted hole to open
up the clutch. Removed the belt, pulled the clutch and inspected the jack
shaft and drive shaft bearings. All looked good. Put it all back together
and took it out next day - no more thunking ! opened it up in a long flat
field and was able to best the legal speed limit by about half my age...
A classmate of my daughter lives next street over and he has gotten into
sledding with some enthusiasm. Went out to his father's place about 60 miles
south and did some riding with him. Went out with him a week or so later up
this way. He rode the 03 I picked up and I rode my 04 I bought new last
year. We did some nice cruising that day. He ended up buying a 03 Legend 600
and that put the kibosh on the snow.
Did the most riding this year - ever And I now have a new riding partner
for next season, snow willing
Best regards to all

Hoping this isn't my last ride report but it might be.
Saturday priors concrete snows of 3-4 feet turned into this
Saturdays snows of venture off the already ridden and sink like a ten
horse led sled. Dressed for a Spring ride and that's what I got to
the second power. End of ride, which I have a picture of, had us
sitting out on some lake in the middle of West nowhere, temps 60 +-,
little to no wind, high sun, ,mostly blue sky, minimal to no sound, it
was good.
Lets touch on the highlights.. Mission was to find some pond
somewhere that I could give a crap about but I'll play along. Last
weeks truck ride turned into that, plus 15 miles of mega slow speed
wood road creep along that I couldn't wait to end. Finally unloaded
and got everything turned around, low and behold a large group of
people we know and for the first time in my life I'm cool with tagging
along. Have ridden with many of them in the past five years and there
all good folk, working construction business owners and blue collar
shmucks, 4 of which were area locals. The pace was slow and the stops
often so coworker/friend Bill and I took to jamming the first water
covered lake we hit like it was our last chance at freedom. Go here,
go there, mostley flat lands with distant hills and I enjoyed it all.
Second lake and everyones hugging the shore except Bill and I and it
probably was the posative highlight of my day. Wicked fun with pure
hill top beauty like you could reach out and touch and I've been here
before yet never got a picture and todays no exception. The four of
us that made the trip together split ways with the crowd and headed on
back to the trucks. One stop I ditched the backpack and motored a
sidebar headed down hill that had me knowing I'd end in stuckville.
When you have to give her big corn to go down hill you know what the
outcomes going to be and it was. All the power in the world won't
make up for a short track. Got out with help from my ol buddy Pete
and we all moved on. 3/4 mile from the truck was plowed gravel an
hour plus from any paved road and that's were things got weird. I'm
last which never happens and Bill and his bud are not far in front of
me. Climb the bank on to a chopped section to get off the road, I see
them both, then it's pop back down on the road. I did and just ahead
is a dude laying dead looking with a riderless sled not far ahead.
Hammer too, and it's Bill and he really does look dead. Face in the
gravel and snoring, for real. Now were all 3 staring down at him and
a decision was made to roll him on his back and I really wasn't cool
with that but ok. One eye closed, the other blue eye half opened
looking at his nose, pretty intense. I've seen shit like this and
played it cool. I'll leave some unsaid but the bottom line is he woke
up. I'm all like hey Bill can you move your fingers and toes, he did,
cool. Hey Bill you wiped the fuck out pretty hard and you've got a
scratch on your nose and mud all over your face and you was snoring.
He sat up, got up, etc.. all good in the end. No cell phones here and
your 90 minutes from rampart lol. Hated to see it but glad to get the
experience if that makes sense. All and all a very memorable day and
if it's the last so be it.
Pictures to follow sooner than later I hope, and though we didn't
really need Wild Bill at work today I wish he was there. Something
about the back of his leg hurt, lol.
