New Dilema... A Dress!

Does anyone know of someone who can make a custom dress from just the
measurements? Everyone I talk to wants me to come there. I am desperate
and I need it by September. The normal lady my coach uses won't do anymore
because of regionals. If you know anyone who would do it please let me
know. I have a picture of the dress I want and I can email it if someone
wants to see it.

On the other hand, I am in the Indianapolis area. If anyone knows a
seamstress within a hour or two drive please let me know.

Unforunately, seach enigines haven't been much help!

I know certain dress compaines like GK will make a competition dress to your
specifications in the color you want or in the design you want. I had a friend
who did this. She sent them a sketch and they sent her color swatches. She
chose her colors and called them and they made the dress exactly how she wanted
it. She was thrilled with how it turned out and I saw it and it was beautiful
and fit her well. Now sure how expensive this was, or exactly how much time it
took, but she was a very satisfied customer. Other dress companies, like Del
Arbour, do this, too, I think......

Try Sandra Loosemore's page. I think a lot of
dress makers are listed under the Business
section. Try your local phone book/yellow
pages. Surely there must be more than your
coach's recommendation in your area - ask other
skaters. Remember a simple dress can have things
added to it to dress it up a little.

I met a lady while I was vacationing in Canada last summer. She does do
custom dresses with just measurements. She has this sheet with all the
measurements that she needs to make the dress, and you fill it out. It
helps to have her explain what the abbreviations mean. Anyway, here's
the info: Shapes N' Figures LTD (403) 735-6020. The store is in
Calgary. I did price things out while I was there last year. With the
exchange rate, a custom plain (i.e. no trim or beading) dress came
out to be $50-70 USD. I didn't end up using her because I decided
to make my own dress, but I still keep the info handy just in case I'm
not feeling motivated enough to make another dress for myself.

Hi. I am a partner in a skating apparel business in Dayton, OH. We would
rather do dresses by (exact) measurement than just make stock size.

This is our slow season and we don't really have any projects on the table.
September should not be a problem. Do you have a material in mind? E-mail
me here at work and we can discuss the details (price, etc.).
