Its "bobeck", says one filtering provider

As I prepare to re-launch my pulic proxy, I found that
one filtering provider has Nicole's name spelt of
"Bobeck", so it looks like I am right and everyone
else is wrong. They have a category "Adult",
which is categorised at adult material that is
not pornographic, and celebrities considered
to be "sex symbols" (and I must say that Nicole
does look GOOD for someone almost 37
years old, she turns 37 on December 24), which does
include a few women figure skaters.

If THEY say that her name is spelt Bobeck,
then it is spelt Bobeck. I am right, they
are right, and everyone else is wrong.

While I provide a proxy to allow people
to get internet radio from work, I do NOT
allow porn, gambling, warez, or P2P
file sharing. And the "adult" categories
on most filters do block them.

The new provider also has Rachael Flatt
on that list. Rachael is one of the sexiest
female skaters alive right now. They
regard her as a "sex symbol", so any
sites related to her are blocked under
the "adult" category. A number of
female figure skaters have fall into
this kind of category over the years.
Elena Sokolova, Oksana Baiul,
Denise Beillmann amd Maria Butyrskaya
are among the skaters that have been
blocked under "adult" categories.

And here is one thing I don't think that Terry
Hall, or is his minions at PDXISS will want to
hear. This company has the Portland Ice
Skating Society site blocked under a number
of categories.

A number of filtering providers have the
PDXISS site blocked.

But as usual, Chuckie, you've got it wrong. Nicole turned 35 on the 23rd of
August.

It's not uncommon for these things to also filter out common misspellings as
well as the correct spellings. It proves nothing.

I would certrainly hope that Tonya would be on the list.

On the contrary, given how prudish and square these guys appear to be we'd be
disappointed if they weren't blocking us. It would indicate we're not doing
our job of annoying the establishment with our pro-Tonya postings.

Probably a few of the more hardline
conservative types that have blocked Fox
News becuase they don't like the short skirts
a lot of the women reporters there wear.

I know that in the past when PDXISS has been available
on our proxy, we have caught hell from some network
administrators who did not like the site. Back in 2006,
we got a rather nasty E-mail from a high school in Austin,
Texas, when someone accessed PDXISS from school,
via our proxy. The administration in that school did NOT
approve of their students accessing the PDXISS web site.
PDXISS was VERBOTEN in that school.

The district was forced to changes it AUP to address
the use of proxies, since there was not specific rule against
using proxies. That fact they could do nothing to the student
over that really ticked them off.

In fact, I was given anonymous information that the people
who were to adminster the SOPA and PIPA laws in the USA,
had they passed, had planned to secretly add PDXISS to
the banned list, and ban anyone in the USA from visiting the
site. Apparently there are few bigshots in the American
government who do not like PDXISS, which also shows
how some in the government planned to use SOPA and PIPA
to silence their opponents.

And it rather surprises me that anyone in Texas would
know anything about skating. Texas is NOT a place
you would associate with skating. There have NEVER
been ANY champion skaters BORN in Texas, though
a few skaters who defected from Cuba have
trained there. Evora and Ladwig trained there after
they came to America from Cuba, and Cuban-American
skater Nina Garcia Jiang trains in the Houston area, but
that is about it, when it comes to figure skating in Texas.
Nina was born in Pinar Del Rio on 9th June 1996. What
is surprising is that she has not been entered in any Masters
or GP events now that she is old enough to compete
in them. She remained in America after the 2011 North
American championships in San Jose, Ca and has
since become an American citizen, and one of several
Chinese-Cuban skaters to become Americans. Beatriz
Liang become American in 2006. She was born in Cienfuegos,
Cuba in 1987. She will turn 25 on October 19th.

Just forgot to change the subject line bacl. However, Nina Jiang
was born in Pinar Del Rio and now lives in Houston. I wonder
if and when we will ever see her in Masters or GP events, now
that she is old enough to compete. Our detractors will likely
say otherwise, but she is an immigrant to America.

But as far as wireless access points we have, in places where
are servers are colocated, I am quite surprised to see
the ones in Sacramento, Ca and Phoenix, Az receiving
hits to a lot of skating sites, especially Sacramento.

Sacramento, and California, in general, are NOT exactly
a figure skating mecca. The closest rink to Sacramento,
since the demise of Iceland, a few years ago, is in
Vacaville.

To see figure skating fans hitting our Sacramento
WiFi hotspot is something highly unexpected, since
the Sacramento area is NOT exactly a place you
would associate with figure skating. Sacramento
is known for its politicians, plus tech workers and
business people who commute to the Bay Area
from there, but NOT for its skating. The
Sacramento Metropolitan area, which also
includes Stockton and Modesto, has NO ice
rinks in the region, PERIOD. Iceland was the
ONLY rink in the Sacramento/Stockton/
Modesto area.

California and figure skating are two things you
do NOT normally see in the same sentence. The
CLOSEST that ANY elite skater has come to
being BORN in California are the handful of skaters
born in a few towns along the Baja coast between
Playas and Ensenada along the Mexico 1D toll
road.

Just like on our Phoenix hotspot. There are
NO public ice rinks in Phoenix. The closest
rink is about 5 hours drive away in the Palm
Springs area. There are NO rinks in Arizona,
PERIOD.

On the Wifi hotspots we have, I am amazed
at how many hits to figure skating sites we
get on the Sacamento hotspot. There are NO
ice rinks in Sacramento since the demise of
Iceland a few years ago.

Our detractors on here might say otherwise,
but the CLOEST rink to Sacramento is now
Vacaville Ice, in Vacaville.

California is NOT exactly a figure skating mecca.
There has NEVER been a champion skater BORN
in California (though a few have trained there).

I am doing some periodic maintenence on one of
our California-colocated servers, before heading
to Ensenada later on this week, for Skate
America.

If you are going to Ensenada, be aware that
there is NO public transportation to Ensenada,
and don't let our detractors tell you otherwise.

It is a good thing that Long Beach was not selected
for Skate America. There would have been NO WAY to get
from LAX to Long Beach WITHOUT a car. MTA
does NOT go into Long Beach.

Vacaville Ice IS the CLOSEST ice rink to Sacramento
now.
