Subject: RUGBY UNION WORLD CUP POOL
                          WORLD CUP POOL

Just to make the upcoming world cup a bit more interesting for us, I
am organizing a competition among rugby fans on the 'net.  This is for fun
only, no money involved, but with all the debates that go on, it will be
interesting to see which of us really does know what he is talking about.

RULES
1.  Contestants shall submit a scenario for the Rugby World Cup based on the
format below.  Points will be awarded for correct selection of winning
teams.  The contestant ammassing the most points wins (too bad they don't
make such a rule for golf)

2.  All entries must be received by me at amjohn...@csupomona.edu prior to
kickoff of the opening game between Australia and South Africa on May
    25.

3.  Only one entry per person.

4.  Scoring:
1st Round:   1 Point for every correct selection.  1/2 Point if result is
a draw.  2 Points for a draw if a draw is selected.  If, how-
ever, a draw is selected, no points shall be awarded if a team
                 actually wins the game.

1/4 Final:   6 Points for each correct selection. (so that each round is
worth the same amount of points.  However, if a team is sel-
ected to win in the 1/4 Final round, but wins a quarter-final
other than the one specified, only 3 points shall be awarded.

1/2 Final:   12 Points for every correct selection.  6 if your team wins
                 the wrong semi-final.

Playoff:    16 Points.  6 if your team wins the final instead.

Final:    24 Points.  6 if your team wins the playoff instead.

Note:    If either of these matches results in a draw (after ALL tie-
breakers), a contestant shall receive 1/4 the possible points
for every team that participates in the game.  For example,
were I to select a final between Wales and Ireland, but in
fact Wales drew with South Africa in the final, I would re-
ceive 6 Points.  If Wales drew with Ireland, I would receive
12 Points.  Should someone select a draw in the final, and it
does come to pass, they will receive 12 points for every team
that they selected to reach the final.
                      Is that sufficiently unclear?

5.  Amendments to your entry cannot be made after the beginning of the first
game.  If you think New Zealand will win the world cup, but instead fail
to escape their pool, you may not substitute another team for them in the
later rounds, and those points available in the games which they were to
have won are now unavailable to you.

6.  Tie-Breakers (in case of equal number of points)
    1. Correct prediction of final winner
    2. Correct prediction of final loser
    3. Correct prediction of playoff winner
    4. Correct prediction of playoff loser
    5. Most correct predictions of pool winners
    6. Most correct predictions of 2nd Placers in pool play
    7. Most correct predictions of 3rd Placers in pool play
    8. Most correct predictions of 4th Placers in pool play
    9. Closest correct score of final. (submit score only for final)

7.  Please use the following format for your entries:

There seems to be a game missing here, New Zealand vs. Japan.
