if my memory serves me correct the school boys enclosure was in the west
stand which runs parallel with the taff, so that would explain it

First time a player's name was chanted by the crowd. Unbelievably wonderful
day. !Me in North Enclosure.

:-) it was a funny week... the previous Saturday I'd seen him play for
Newport against Newbridge. Unusual for a new cap to play the week
before his debut but they'd picked him at full back for Wales and he
hadn't played there before so Newport gave him a run out against
Newbridge... He had an awful game and they put him back at centre at
half time! On the other hand veteran full back Dewi Jones played a
blinder for Newbridge - dropped a goal from the half way line, kicked
everything else he was asked to, etc... at least that's the way I
remember it..! and then on the big day the boy done good..! and Wales
stuffed England 34-21 on a lovely sunny afternoon..! Great day
indeed... :-)

as a 13 year old rugby nut it was an historical event that will never leave
me until my dying day almost 36 years ago and if I close my eyes long enough
I can still see the kick either con, or pen, that hit the upright first then
bounced on the cross bar and the almighty roar as it dropped over for the
score. ooooow aarrrr yeaaaaaa. funny you should talk about Newbridge and
Dewi Jones. I went to school in Ystrad Mynach, Graddfa and Dewi Jones was
our pe master. small world. I now live Wiltshire
