Southern Island of New Zealand is depicted in this very professionally
made painting by the renowned New Zealand artist Harry Smith in 1977.
His love for the mountains of the Rangitata River area is seen in this
extremely well composed work. The spirit of the Alma mountain and of
the Rangitata River directly flows into the viewer.

The painting in the pristine condition will look just right in your
study room. It measures 11½" × 14½" with the frame in pristine
condition 2" in width.

I still say this picture looks wrong (see my earlier posting
on soc.culture.new-zealand). (There is a larger view of the
painting near the bottom of the ebay site).

ps. It also looks like it was a paint-by-numbers. But then,
what do _I_ know about art? A few years ago Canada's National Gallery
paid big coin (ie, something like $100,000 of TAXPAYER's money)
for some "modern" art consisting of 3 horizontal bands of color.
Well, shoot, with a few spray cans and a piece of leftover plywood
I could have whomped up something just a good for half the price!

I agree with you, Sean. My friend Chris's mum in Oamaru paints pictures
that are miles better. I might tell her she should try auctioning them on
ebay.

Me, if I got the choice between a Colin McCahon & the paint-by-numbers job,
I'd take the McCahon - yes please! And if it wasn't too big for the walls
in my house, I'd keep it too.

Any Rita Anguses, Bill Suttonses, Fomisons, Hoteres etc gladly accepted, for
that matter.

McCann, of course, but I'd flick it on straight away. There are so
many suckers out there who have fallen for the myth that McCann is a
painter. He's not even a real painter's arsehole.
