I love it. Truly. It must be completely mind numbing and humiliating
for him to commit his life's work to hating the All Blacks only to see
them come into Twickers, play at 3/4 potential, and still make his
country of choice's team look turgid. For the 8th time in a row. I
almost feel sorry for him, I mean he obviously sold his emotional
shares in his home country to support what he thought would be a
winner and it's turned to ashes in his mouth. He has no fall back
position left.

Dark times, boyo.....

And as for hauling out the RWC and holding it up like a head of
Garlic and a bottle of holy water, feel free Stephen, it won't change
what is happening to your team every time they play NZ. 8 times in a
ROW, and the best he can manage is NZ hasn't won more RWC's? This
loss must be truly galling to haul out that chestnut. What if against
the odds, and it would be against the odds, NZ wins the RWC in 2011?
What will the poor fellow have left to live for? There'll be tears in
the Valley....

And oh yes, 2003, it's in there, "once the greatest rugby playing
nation on earth", ffs, it's Stephen Jones's 1966...

Roll on France. They will be a tougher nut to crack than the ruins
of Fortress Twickenham...

knew that it was because half the ABs were chatting to their mates in

The other point is this : whats the point of "seeing things progress" in
the team when half the team are second stringers only there because of
injuries?

So you'll be claiming a victory if France beats NZ next week? By
that logic you lost to Scotland yesterday when they beat Australia,

We needed 10 or more points iirc. Who's to say that the whole team

Fair enough, but then why not take the 3 pointer on offer with the
penalty a minute or more earlier?

It looked like desperation and lack of confidence to try the
droppie at that point.

Yeah the same came through with his "Big boys going backwards" article
about the Bok scrum. The last 6 losses in a row against the Boks
must've really hurt him too - especially 36-0 & 42-6 at the
"Fortress".

I wonder if he saw Beast & co walking through the "feared" Italy scrum
that man-handled the AB's and them reminding Fidelgiovanni exactly
who's boss?

Indeed. Good luck to the AB's if the French are as fired up as they
were against us! Should be a cracker.

Dave's point still stands. They gave up a nailed on 3 points to go for
the try, much to the crowd's appreciation. They work the ball into the
back line in the centre of the field with the outside guys heading
towards the try line and Wilkinson tries a drop. I really can't think of
another No 10 in the world who would've made that decision. It beggars
belief.

You've got to be joking.

Even if the kick went over, Wilkinson had just squandered an attacking
platform which England experienced very few times in the match. How is
"we're here now but we might be able to get down here again soon" a 50/50
situation?

I'm not anti drop-goals the way some here are, but that one was
indefensible. If you don't think your team can score a try, take the
penalty kick at goal when offered.

That was the main point. If you think 3 is enough then take the
penalty. Don't squander energy and time for the same later on.

What a load of 'hand me the kleenex' bullshit. There's nothing in the
article
that's offensive or smells of 'hating the All Blacks'. It's a pretty
accurate summary
of where England and the AB's are. I agree with Jones, extract Carter and
McCaw
and you pretty much have a bunch of journeymen, albeit technically good
journeymen, who don't shirk the task. And yes, I agree, that doesn't paint
the
Wallabies in an especially good light.

Your sensitivities are raised because he mentioned RWC and I can understand
why.
You'll be at home, not 20,000 kms away and with that will come an enormous
amount
of pressure. More pressure in fact than any AB team in history has endured.
There's
nowhere to hide. If the tournament were on tomorrow, you'd be dusted by both
the
French and the Boks. The NZ media have avoided discussing RWC 2011, as have
AB fans, You
are shitting your pants, because you don't want to think about the
humiliation that is more
than possible. 91,95.99,03,07 and 2011 ?

You have reason to be worried, there's no genuine stars on the horizon and
no guarantee
McCaw and Carter can hold their form for another two years.

Counselling might just help

But was anything he wrote wrong? Regardless of his past orm, his
analysis seemed pretty spot on.

For an England side only a little better than the fairly useless mob
on show on Saturday, this was a gilt-edged chance to beat the weakest
All Black team to visit these shores in a pretty long time.

Alas, only the most optimistic England fan would have aspired to that

No I was not joking. Yes his defence and place kicking were OK and yes
he made a break or two in each game with some nice quick hands, but he
is far too predictable with his sidestep and is part of the problem of
creativity by standing far too deep and giving the defenders too much
time. That was less obvious when Care was on as his pass from the
ruck/maul/scrum is a split-secong delayed, but clear when Hodgson played.

His kicking from hand is a complete mess. A bit better on Saturday, but
he still lacked the confidence to go for the corner from far out a
couple of times.

Th DG attempt was the last straw given that he and presumably Borthwick
had turned down the much more likely 3 points from a penalty. As the
pair of them presumably decided to go for the try, it was completely
bizarre to then go for the DG when there were still attacking options. I
see you agree in the next post by calling it a brain-fart. We can't
afford those at this level.

We have no real idea if anyone can replace him apart from Goode thanks
to MFJ. I'd have liked to see Foden given a go against ARg. and if Cip
hadn't been dropped like a hot potato by eyebrows he might have
developed to the next stage by now. Or play Gerachty at 10. We need
someone else, because I doubt if JW will make it to NZ. Hope I'm wrong,
but I don't think he's going to repeat his 2003 successes in the middle
of this team.

It was gratuitous All Black bashing, as always. By all means have at
your own team when they lose, and feel free to say this was a less
than stellar NZ rugby team, but it was typical of Jones's style that
he gets spiteful with the All Blacks at some stage of his column. He's
been at it for years, and it gets worse with every passing victory

Well that's one way of looking at it. Another is a) the backhanded
compliment that a poor All Blacks that still beats England comfortably
at home is worthy of vitriol, rather than the high praise given to a
thin victory by Scotland over a very, very ropey Australia that
fluffed more opportunities than Matty at the Blue Oyster and b) that

point), England were truly dire (which they were) - part of Jones'

Lord Shiney wonders why anyone cares what Jones writes, but since you
ask this question Lord Shiney would offer as evidence the laughable
line:

"This was the least impressive, least dynamic and least effective New
Zealand team I have ever seen play at Twickenham."

Jones has obviously forgotten the B team Mitchell put on the park in
2002. Which seems surprising to Lord Shiney, since England won on
that occasion...

Jones has been watching rugby for a long time, which probably makes his
'least effective ever' comment an exaggeration, given the blunt edge
presented by NZ in the 1993 match or their ineffectual efforts in 1979 and

I was right, we needed someone a little more on the ball than you to
explain what the hell the RWC has to do with last Saturday's game.

Two Dogs

From the Times article - 'I suspect that New Zealand will be 15 points
better against France in Marseilles next weekend but here they looked a
nation who could easily continue their woeful run in World Cups when they
host the competition in 2011.
If you took Richie McCaw out of their back row, you would have a back five
of nothing more than mediocrity at this level, and no team will ever deem
themselves without a chance against New Zealand should they be confronted by
the fragility of Jimmy Cowan at scrum-half'

You respond ' And as for hauling out the RWC and holding it up like a head

of
Garlic and a bottle of holy water, feel free Stephen, it won't change

what is happening to your team every time they play NZ'

Jones was perfectly entitled to make that observation and while it had
nought to do with stuffing England, one does not need permission to theorise
about the very real challenges that face the AB's over the next two years. I
have no such dilemmas with the Wallabies because the're fucked.

While their performances may not be as dire as some are painting, to some of
us "long suffering" AB supporters it is actually a little comforting to not
see them at the peak of their powers at this stage of the WC cycle. While I
don't subscribe to the WC being the holy grail it would be nice to win it
again - and I can assure you two years is plenty of time to turn things
around. Just looking at the fortunes of some of the previous WC winners a
couple of years out and the feeling is almost heartening!

Surely that's why he was so pissed off, he wanted a thrashing by the ABs
to hasten the coaching setup's demise. :)

PS Just got our tickets for the 2010 St. Valentine's Day massacre in
Rome :)
Anyone else going ?

I declined tickets - I looke at the airfares and it wasn't worth the
cost of the trip.

hardly bears comparison to a a team containing McCaw and Carter. But
if you and Jones think otherwise, that's fine by Lord Shiney.

Sure you do, just a shame that McCaw chucked it forward for your first
try, thereby rendering the match void.
But O'Kaplan's wiki page is intact, you won't hear me bleating on about
it, holding enquiries and calling it bullshit, no Sir.....

In the context of the meat of his article, dismal England, it's a sour
grapes observation at best, a tantrum at worst. That was my point.

By the way, how did it feel to construct a rational argument rather
than resort to insults? No pants shitting or Kleenex offering or
schadenfraude over a tournament no yet played. Nicely done, snake
lips, you stand as a shining example to Mr Jones..

Jones is getting sloppy. The obvious anti-NZ troll this week would be to
point out that Samoa shouldn't feel too bad about their B team getting
beaten 43-5 by France, because the A team gets their chance this weekend.

Hardly, I'd rather my team win 90% of the time than lose 90% of the time.

If the All Blacks do win the RWC in 2011, what will you have? I can see it
now - the All Blacks can't win a RWC away from home. Fuck off leeg thug.

Therein lies the beauty, I don't give a fuck, you clearly do. I suggest you
fuck off back to your leeg group where you can be concerned of your online
presence, you fuggen westy loser.

Pathetic, I love how you can diagnose me with an insecurity complex through
text posts, text posts that are clearly 95% troll. You're a deadshit, and
I'd bet my left testicle that I have it better than you.

What the fuck is up with your formatting, do you
draft and paste later

it........

That's as good as it'll get from you mr lightweight and it should
come as no surprise that you cover your shallow understanding
of Rugby with a formatting complaint.

Still dying to know if your dad is still in witness protection....lol
