What do the Kiwi's think of the ABs at the moment.
They seem to have lost their ability to finish teams off.

I think Nonu is a waste of space, and although I like Smith, I think we need
a big centre that can cut through the other teams backline.

I don't know why Henry hasn't chosen Israel Dagg or Robbie Robinson as the
next fullback as I don't think Mils will make it through to the next WC.

We also need a big No 8 that has mongrel!!!

What are your thoughts ????

Matua.

Yeh, both the ability to break the line and a set of really quick outside
backs to feed on those breaks. Mils, Roko and Sivi at times have all
looked a bit ponderous this year. Smith has been our best bet at Centre
but the messing around with McAlister, Nonu and *shudders* Donald has
really been craphouse.

Agreed. Thomson and Read are capable enough players but can't compare to
Jerry & Rodney in 2005-6. Along with Richie that was an arse kicking
loose forward trio.

No need to bring up your family's history Will. Jesus. I'd keep quiet
about that if I were you. God knows : In Aus you get beaten up for
liking anything with Chilli from what I can gather - never mind playing

I'd advise looking up irony in a quality dictionary. While you're at
the library, save yourself another trip and investigate humour.

Unfortunately I thought Stephen Jones got his assessment right about
the ABs. Read is a fine BS but he didn't look anywhere like a #8 as
Haskell did for England. Thomson and Kaino are OK at BS but we lack
the big punchy #8 as you say. I like Bourke, Setaphano and Manu as
possible alternatives, although Victor Vito looks like the type of
player who would be dynamic in both roles. As a cover for OS, keep an
eye out for Lowe upcoming S14, he may well edge out Latimer.

Half-Back is starting to look the Meg Ryan show. Weepu, Matheson and
Leonard look much better. Wo was the kid who played for Taranaki (I
think), just out of school and tough as nails?

Backline is not too bad, I thought Nonu was OK, distributed well and
had some nice hit ups and can actually kick the ball. Smith was
having a bad day which made Nonu look not so good. It will be nice to
see how Freun develops at Cuntabury aand Kahui back from injury.

Not sure about Guilford at wing, seems like a lot of media hype got
him in. The few clips I saw of the young Otago winger were actually
pretty good apart from his first muff up.

I agree Mils might not make the RWC, despite having once of the best
games this season. He seems better suited for running rugby than kick
and chase. Isreal Dagg or Cory Jane are likely contenders for the #15
spot.

Robbie Robinson has bags of talent and may well be Carters understudy
by RWC time, based on his games for the NPC with the Stags.

Cheers, Tim

It looks that way. I think it's a combination of three things: one,
we're bringing up some new talent which hasn't of yet settled in to
place. Two, most of the NH teams appear to have settled into a
pattern of trying to nullify the ABs rather than trying to score
themselves meaning that the ABs need to grind the opponent down for
40,50,60 minutes before breaking through their defences. And three:
the current laws encourage slowing the ball, sideline to sideline
defensive lines and endless kicking the ball away - hardly a situation
made for running rugby.

I don't think there's any need to panic.

It would be nice to develop some more midfield talent. Smith is all
class though.

They will get their chance, but I'm not sure about Mils - he looks in
good form at the moment.

Thomson is a #6, not a #8. He's also the best #6 in the country right
now. He's mobile, big, a great lineout option and he scavenges almost
as well as McCaw. No good at 8 though.

Has Kaino been tried at 8? He's pretty physical.
