Watching this year's Super 14 wouldn't have helped you much- he's
behind a certain Dan Carter in the flyhalf stakes. He played for the
Highlanders (Otago-Southland) last season, and held his own pretty
well without really standing out in a poor team. He runs well, but his
kicking game never really struck me as being good enough.
At provincial (ANZ cup) level, he was always one of Northland's best
players (usually playing at 12), but he moved to Auckland last year
and didn't convince at flyhalf enough to get a contract with the
Blues. They signed Stephen Brett for the Super 14 instead. He played
for NZ under-21s as well (again at 12), but has never looked likely to
push for higher honours.
Actually a fairly similar pedigree to Flutey... he's certainly
talented enough to make an impact, but hard to predict.
