Do you record your training online?
Hi all, I have created a website called rowblogs.com where you can plan, record, plot, sum, ... your training and races. You can also create blogs to share your thoughts/experiences or look for inspiration. Its free to use the website, I'd really like to hear your feedback about the site.

Mathematician Solves Rowing Boat "Wiggle" Problem ...
Read all about it: [link] I don't think this is as revolutionary as the article makes out. I believe Italian rigs have been known to be better balanced for a while (or at least AIUI). There are 2 interesting bucket rig variations though, including one with all 4 on one side together in the middle of... more »

Filippi eights
I'm soliciting opinions from the group on Filippi rowing shells, particularly the eights. They've been recommended to me, I'd like to hear from people who use them, this is for a heavyweight college men's crew, rowing on salt water. Durable? Components good? riggability? Email or post ok, thanks... more »

Any vet rowing after a meniscectomy?
Painful knee, saw orthoman this morning, he says it's a tear in the anterior meniscus (sometimes caused by the disease TMB* from which I suffer, but in my case possibly the result of an accident), and says he can sort it out. Day patient, general anaesthetic, small holes in the knee, all that. He tells me that the patient can put load on the knee immediately (i.e.... more »

masters and displacement of single
Someone mentioned to me that perhaps masters are underboated, given they don't generate as many watts per lb or kg of bodyweight as do elite rowers. Some theory of the drag of the shell vs the length vs the productive/power producing body weight. I had, and still do unless corrected, believe it was strictly a... more »

Rowing and art
RQ on her New Rowing Information page: [link] has drawn attention to a Row2k.com interview with noted sculler & sculptor, Ellen Kennelly. Ellen dropped in at our workshop some years ago, not long after I'd seen pictures of her powerful bronze of a sculler's hands.... more »

nice idea for fund raising.
The BIAC club this weekend is having a head race. Following the head race, this year's organizer set up a series of "challenge races", various club members and coaches will boat up and race each other, they'll all have financial backers who will "bet" on the outcome, loser's money donated to the program.... more »

Single scull opinions
I have been looking to buy a single to row on the tideway. I am not the most experienced sculler, but am keen to become one, and as I have yet to come across someone who will give me a straight opinion on the general characteristics of different makes apart from an opinion of the boat type they currently own, or the typical "empacher only"... more »

How many people can you actually get into a single?
Here is the latest from the what-stupid-hacks-write department. Above the caption "Langley Academy pupils with their boat and rowing legend Sir Matthew Pinsent at a recent visit." you will see this fine picture: [link] The story, at this absurdly long URL... more »
