Omar,

I believe you are referring to "John Biglin in a Single Scull," which
can be found at

http://www.cis.yale.edu/yups/yuag/1932.263.Eakins.html

I got to this page through a link from the Virtual Library page for
Rowing, which can be found at

http://www.comlab.ox.ac.uk/archive/other/rowing.html

I hope this helps.

One of the Eakins paintings, the Biglin Brothers, is temporarily up at
http://www.access.digex.net/~mcmackin
I hope to have the specific one you are looking for up soon.
Please forward my email to copyright jail. You wouldn't by any
chance be related to Yaz? (No, I don't mean Carl Yastremski).

There are a couple of Eakins' rowing pictures at the WebMuseum (one of
the true wonders of the Web) it's mirrored all over the shop, but one
place to find it is http://sunsite.doc.ic.ac.uk/wm/paint/auth/eakins/ He
did a lot more than just the ones they've there (and not the one you're
after :( but I guess there's only so many painting the WM can carry.

I have one of his, a pair just going under a bridge, on my wall at home
and an inspirational thing it is too.

If anyone is interested in seeing the real thing, the Cleveland Museum of
Art here in Cleveland OH has the Eakins exhibit on display (I believe it
traveled to D.C. and then here, and then it's home to Yale). Anyhow, the
exhibit is free and it's quite nice. Included are the original sketches
that Eakins made of the shell and perspective studies to make sure he had
everything just right.
Stop in if you're near, it's too good to miss. I believe it's here until
early May.

You may be referring to "John Biglin in a Single Scull". I'm sorry but I
don't know who has the original so the Yale reference doesn't help. I can
tell you that Williams College holds the rights to the print. You could
try contacting their head coach, Peter Wells at
Peter....@williams.edu.

Call John Schoonover, a first class photographer and artist, and a rower,
and an art dealer at 302-6560135. He can give you specific info about the
art you have mentioned.

John Biglin in a Single Scull was painted in 1874 and is in the permanent
collection at the Yale University Art Gallery. There is a watercolor
version done in 1873 that is at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (NYC) Hope
this helps.

You might try contacting the Cleveland Museum of Art. They just closed
an exhibit on the rowing paintings of Thomas Eakins.
