Grammatical mistakes aside, it's good to see that people are taking
safety seriously. It also proves that the carrot is more effective
than the stick in encouraging people to follow the rules.

�1000 or �500 isn't an unwelcome amount of money for most clubs. We all
see how everybody else behaves on the river, and seemingly randomly
giving money out to people, without a proper explanation, somewhat
defeats the purpose of having the award in the first place.
The last I heard was that lots of clubs provided observers on various
days who recorded the times when crews were doing things right and the
times they weren't, so both the proportion doing the right thing and
the number on the river are reflected. Seems fair.
There aren't really "points" anymore.
