Why? It was obviously an error, for chrissakes -- taped previously. Wouldn't
it be a better use of people's time to donate time or money to Katrina's
"victims" than to waste their time indignantly e-mailing a dumb game show
because they offered a trip to New Orleans as a prize? How could that
negatively impact *anybody's* life?

It was broadcast live.
I recall the time a model unknowingly wore a dress that was unzipped or
had a tear in the back. Cullen had her turn around several times to
show the audience before she realized what was happening.

and even if it was live it's not like there arn't lots of people buying
tickets to new orleans to help out anyway....plus they did think ahead and
gave them a speedboat too.

The show was a repeat, and nobody won the trip (double overbid.) However,
as you said, they could have skipped showing that particular episode
again.

...in his book THE RAPE OF THE A*P*E*, Allan Sherman (who had himself
been a Goodson-Todman employee as creator and producer of "I've Got a
Secret") claimed there was an early TPIR program on which, as a gag, a
baby elephant was a prize. Problem was, when the elephant was brought
out on stage, it took a dump in full view of the camera. In an effort to
salvage the visual image of the program, the director frantically cut
from shots of Cullen to each of the contestants -- all of whom wher
doubled up in laughter. They finally switched to the only individual on
stage not laughing -- the elephant itself...
...of course, Sherman neglected to mention that a similar circumstance
took place on "I've Got a Secret" a few months later, when a cow was
brought onstage for panelist Bess Myerson to milk -- and the cow shat
upon that stage as well. Cullen was present for that defecation, too, as
he was a panel mate of Myerson's; I don't recall if either Cullen or
Henry Morgan came out and handed anyone a shovel (although it would have
fit Morgan's personality to do so)...
