PANKAJ DOSHI: 1) Double Undertakers. Just plain dumb, and the fans really
didn't care. 2) Shane Douglas dumps the NWA belt. I certainly wasn't in
Philadelphia that night, but it sounds like a really bad idea. Why should
the indies become even more divisive when they should be targeting the
Big Two together? 3) Equalizer becomes Dave Sullivan, the #1 Hulkamaniac.
I thought this was pretty funny up until September, when the Sullivans
suddenly became involved in WCW's headline feud. And that new music!!! ....
OTTO HEUER: WWF won the first three years; WCW won last year (and tied the
first year). Is Vinnie losing his reputation of being able to come up with
stupid/tasteless/moronic angles? Not with the Undertaker dying and rising
from the dead... :-P
HERB KUNZE: The worst ones are either too stupid or too insulting to be
believable. So, UT levitating takes first, the two Undertakers take
second, and all those damn midgets takes third.
WOJO: Watching Hogan getting rapped in the knee, then watching it unfold for
months was terrible. And why in hell are they doing a midget match.
CHRISTOPHER ZIMMERMAN: Yes, they all involved You Know Who.
Worst Organization
------------------
Award Description:
To be given to the organization/promotion that has the worst product.
This is the organization whose TV and house shows you wouldn't
even think of attending. Probably not even as a freebie.

0 0 1 2 WmWF
0 0 1 2 WING
0 0 1 2 MTW
0 0 0 0 SMW
OTTO HEUER: WWF and WCW have been passing this one back and forth. It's
WWF's turn to win, but WCW has been trying soooooooo hard with all this
Hulk Hogan $#!+
HERB KUNZE: I'm sure things like GWF, USWA, and other small places would
win these votes, if only I watched them. I don't watch them, though.
I've had the chance to see some of the fringe Japanese groups and they
were pretty bad. IWA takes first. FMW takes second. WING takes third.
CHRISTOPHER ZIMMERMAN: I voted for WCW in all three places, but I don't
think Herb will count them more than once. {Editor's note: Ah, so that
was you that screwed things up. Argh}
Worst TV Show
-------------
Award Description:
To be given to what is on average the worst wrestling TV show.
In 1994, TV shows and major shows were given separate award
categories.
Previous Winners:
1990: N/A
1991: WCW Great American Bash, 07/07/91
1992: WWF This Tuesday In Texas, 12/03/91
1993: WWF WrestleMania IX, 04/04/93
This Year's Winner: WCW World Wide
Participation Statistics:
Total 1st Place Voters = 42 (= 210 points)
Total 2nd Place Voters = 36 (= 108 points)
Total 3rd Place Voters = 32 (= 64 points)
Detailed Results:
1st 2nd 3rd Score
6 10 3 66 WCW World Wide
6 7 6 63 WWF All American
6 8 3 60 WWF Mania
4 3 7 43 WCW Main Event
6 1 3 39 WCW Pro Wrestling
3 2 4 29 WWF Superstars
3 3 2 28 WCW Saturday Night
4 1 1 25 WWF Wrestling Challenge
3 0 0 15 ECW TV
1 1 0 8 GWF TV
0 0 2 4 IWCCW
0 0 1 2 UWF reruns (inadmissable?)
HERB KUNZE: What purpose has Wrestling Challenge served this year?
It's so bad that few TV stations carry it. As a result, the WWF
lets less and less happen on the show since nobody sees it. Then
the show gets worse and the vicious circle continues. First place.
Second to All American, which we had on TSN most of the year. It
was terrible every time I watched it. Third goes to WCW Pro, which
also serves little purpose.
CHRISTOPHER ZIMMERMAN: Another WCW sweep!
Worst Major Show
----------------
Award Description:
To be given to the worst major event. This could be a pay-per-view,
a TV special, or any big arena event. In 1994, TV shows and major
shows were given separate award categories.
Previous Winners:
1990: N/A
1991: WCW Great American Bash, 07/07/91
1992: WWF This Tuesday In Texas, 12/03/91

This Year's Winner: 06/19/94: WWF King of the Ring

1 0 0 5 06/23/94: WCW Clash of Champions XXVII
0 0 2 4 11/20/93: WCW BattleBowl
0 1 0 3 02/20/94: WCW SuperBrawl
0 0 0 0 08/05/94: SMW Night of the Legends
OTTO HEUER: Interesting to look at the cronologically-ordered nominee list:
WWF had 4 bad PPVs in the first half of the year; WCW had none. WCW had
three bad PPVs in the last half of the year (when Hogan showed up); WWF
had none.
HERB KUNZE: I saw no WWF PPVs live after Rumble. I did see WrestleMania
on video, but I've seen no other WWF shows from this year. That said,
first place is the Royal Rumble. It had one *** tag match and a
bunch of crap, including the floating Undertaker angle. Second place
to Survivor Series, which had a better average match quality, but had
the 4 Doinks match. Third to BattleBowl which had the Dustin & Kong
vs. Equalizer & Kong match, a lot of crap, and one ***1/2 match.
CHRISTOPHER ZIMMERMAN: Another sweep for the team of Hogan & WCW.
Worst Promotional Move
----------------------
Award Description:
To be given the worst move made by a promotion this past year. This
could include giving somebody a push, demoting someone, firing someone
hiring someone, or anything of a promotional nature.

0 0 0 0 WWF has lame celebrities at WrestleMania
0 0 0 0 WCW hires Michael Buffer as big-show ring announcer
0 0 0 0 GWF fires Michael Hayes as booker
CURTIS DESJARDINS: Who the hell approved giving Duggan a title??? Sure as
hell wasn't Sullivan. Don't they need a majority vote or something when
there's multiple bookers? Or does Hogan run the show in everything but
name?
Is there a point to having a WWF Women's belt with only 2 women
wrestling for the belt. Yeah yeah, I know, Luna and Heidi Lee
were there for the first month or so, but now we get to see either
Alundra vs. Bull or Bull vs. Alundra. That wouldn't be so bad if
Madusa would job for the Guillotine instead of using that lame
german suplex to finish Bull (oh, like that's believeable)
HERB KUNZE: WCW bringing in Hogan wasn't a big deal to me. It was a
necessity in some ways since the company had to do something to
recover from a shitty run of great wrestling shows. But giving
him control the way they have is terrible. I'm so disinterested
now. The Flair run drew and nothing that bad came of it in this
year's voting period, but I still put it first. Second goes to
New Japan pushing Shinya Hashimoto as IWGP champion. I can't
stomach it. Luckily, Shinya can for the both of us. Third goes
to Jim Duggan getting the US Title. I understand that in a
revised match the face should probably go over so nobody gets
pissed off, but Steve Austin got screwed and we now have Duggan
way too high in the mix.
CHRISTOPHER ZIMMERMAN: I'm sure I'm the only person who was bothered by
seeing Tanaka & Haito job for Austin. Especially when you see what
Duggan did to Austin.
General Comments:
IRON FOOT: Any year that sees the 'retirement' of Ric Flair and the ascendency
of Hulk Hogan can't be all good, but there is good wrestling to be found
and I have the good fortune of living in the Northeast where I have a
regular diet of New Japan, All Japan, AAA, and ECW. I'd like to see more
of the Great Sasuke and Michinoku Pro, and I'd like to be able to get
some All Japan Women's so here's hoping for a better New Year. :-)
BRUCE McGEORGE: It would be nice to have a last round of nominations when
the annual period ends. There were many cases of strong work, angles,
shows that occurred in the most recent month that will be overlooked.
ECW dominated my awards ballot for North American voting; I didn't get very
many non-USA tapes over the last year. The Big Two (WWF & WCW) dominated my
negative voting, but it was refreshing that the positive categories did not
lack for contenders. Thanks to Herb for running this show!
{Editor's note: I *did* run a very short nominations call after the AAA
show on 11/06 to capture any last nominees for our year end of 11/08.
That's how a lot of the AAA stuff was nominated. Japanese things can
get lost in the shuffle because most people don't see things until at
least a month after the fact, explaining the lack of October nominations.}
