Galavision Lucha Libre TV Review #36
CMLL TV 9/19/98 and AAA TV 9/21/98
By ste...@kern.com

CMLL TV 9/19/98
The episode starts with "CMLL de gira por Japon", the segment shows
several Japanese magazine photos of CMLL's 8/98 Japanese tour. The
best of them is a shot of Mano Negra Jr in the middle of a moonsault
dive onto an opponent.

Santo/Fuerza Guerrera/Villano III vs Negro Casas/Atlantis/Fiera
The teams trade off some decent offense back and forth. Fiera dives
over the top rope with a stiff unbent bodied tope suicida onto Villano
III, with solid head first impact. Fiera lands the rare good dive on
his hip. Santo does his somersault head butt off the top onto Fuerza,
missing his target Negro. Santo follows the tope con hilo with a tope
suicida through the ropes and near the post onto Fiera. Negro pins
Fuerza for the first fall. The tecnicos help the badly limping old man
Fiera back into the ring after the fall. Fuerza begins fall two
complaining about his injured ribs caused by Santo's tope. Santo throws
Negro to the floor, and follows with a basic cross body dive off the
top. Santo picks Negro up from being sentoned on by Fuerza. The rudos
beat down Santo. The tecnicos help Santo again, and get the win. Good
overall match, with solid fast paced action.

Ultimo Guerrero vs Mr Aguila - mask vs mask
Ultimo enters the ring to Queen's "We Will Rock You". Aguila enters to
Marilyn Manson's "Beautiful People", wearing a spiked jacket, acting
like a rudo, and sporting an awful case of back acne. Must be from all
the steroids. Ultimo starts the match with chops, kicks, and knees.
Aguila is whipped to the corner, the charging Ultimo misses and is
thrown over the top rope. Aguila follows with a good Ludxor tornillo
mortal, driving Ultimo to the floor. They trade off some moves. Aguila
hits a stunner, followed by a Gory special hold, right into a crab type
arm and leg hold for the fall. Ultimo throws Aguila to the floor, then
follows with a missed baseball slide. Aguila kicks Ultimo in the face,
chops him, then whips him into the apron. Aguila follows with a damn
impressive middle rope springboard Venum tornillo mortal, moonsault
with a full body twist. Ultimo is driven into the first row of seats,
while Aguila lands the dive standing. Ultimo gets a few moves in, then
flys off the top with a drop kick to the back of Aguila's head. Ultimo
picks Aguila up, then throws him one armed over his shoulder. Ultimo
follows with a leg and arm hold for fall two. Ultimo suplexes Aguila
over the top to the floor, then follows with a weak elbow dive off the
apron. Ultimo attempts a top rope throw, but is drop kicked to the
floor. Aguila follows with a slick legs first Ludxor tornillo mortal.
Aguila frankensteins Ultimo off the top with Dragon's move, then misses
a top rope moonsault twisted into a somersault a la Dragon. Ultimo
gets a near fall with a jumping powerbomb. Aguila counters a second
powerbomb with a cradle for a near fall. Aguila throws Ultimo over his
knee neck first for a near fall. They trade off a few more near falls.
Aguila gets a two count with an actual well executed 450 splash. Ultimo
strikes Aguila's attempted run up the ropes, springboard 360 twisting
arm drag, down to the mat. Ultimo sits Aguila on the top rope, then
follows with a killer reverse superplex. Ultimo follows with an over
the shoulder one armed throw, help on and into a belly to belly suplex,
help on and right into a cradle and submission hold for the win. Really
good overall match, with some great state of the art dives and throws,
solid build, one missed move on Ultimo's part, and a well done logical
finish with Aguila getting KOed by the top rope throw. It would have
meant a lot more months ago, before Aguila started wrestling unmasked
in the US. But it went down about as well as it could have, as one of
the top lucha TV matches of the year.

Dr Wagner/Blue Panther/Universo 2000 vs Shocker/Felino/Emilio Charles
Wagner and Shocker start the match trading off some fast basic holds
for a few minutes. Panther and Felino come in next and do some more of
the same. Universo and Charles come in, with Universo using chops and
kicks rather than basic holds. Wagner locks Charles into an El Cristo
cross face hold for the fall. They all brawl around in fall two, with
Felino taking it after a top rope diving huracanrana on Panther. Wagner
is nearly pinned a few times by Charles, and ends the match by groin
fouling a second neck breaker attempt, for the tecnico victory. Average
overall action.

Momentos Estelares moves of the week. Ultimo Guerrero and Blue Panther
double team Mr Aguila. Felino pins Villano III with a plancha off the
top. Santo dives off the apron with a flying head scissors. Virus dives
about ten feet far, Rob Van Dam caliber, off the top turnbuckle onto
Sendero.

Kevin Quinn/Ricky Santana/Boricua vs Apolo Dantes/Mascara ano 2000/
Emilio Charles
The Mexican tecnicos take fall one after several minutes of brawling.
Quinn gets the Puerto Rican flag pole and attacks the tecnicos with
it. Team Puerto Rico is disqualified, giving the match to the tecnicos
in straight falls. Below average match action wise.

AAA TV 9/21/98
Cuerno de Chivo/Franky/? vs Casanova/Nino de la Calle/Pantera AAA
Nino de la Calle wears torn and dirty jeans and a tee shirt, Pantera
AAA wear a Pantera mask and suit, the unknown rudo is an older guy
with a gay gimmick. All six guys trade off some basic offense, with the
older gay gimmicked rudo going against the street kid tecnico. Nino de
la Calle dives off the top with a decent looking basic cross body onto
the unknown rudo. Pantera AAA pins a standing Cuerno with a moonsault
off the top, while Casanova pins Franky with la magistral for fall one.
The rudo team is disqualified for brawling too roughly. Decent first
fall, but overall an average match.

Noti AAA clips of the week. Nino de la Calle is shown washing car
windows at an intersection. Pentagon tells the tecnicos that he tricked
them. Sangre Chicana's team, Furia Nortena Humilla, brawls with Los
Vipers. Latin Lover strips for the crowd. Abismo Negro and Kick Boxer
cut a promo.

Abeja/Avispa/Hormiga/Mosca vs Lyguila/Goku/Tobe Kage/Zirayia
Los Kamikazes take fall one with quadruple northern light suplex holds.
The blue outfitted Kamikaze breaks a top turnbuckle while running the
ropes. Causing the top rope to fall off. Three of Los Insectos dive
over the second rope onto three of Los Kamikazes with weak looking
comedy dives. Lyguila throws Hormiga to the floor, then follows with
a killer, but low to the ground, somersault dive into the rail and his
opponent. Los Kamikazes do a lazy triple dive. Avispa is put into Los
Insectos sack, then pinned for the match. Decent action, but they all
could have done better dives with a missing top rope, instead of mostly
weak old man comedy crap.

Cibernetico/Kick Boxer vs Latin Lover/Heavy Metal
They all brawl around for several minutes. Tirantes and the tecnico
ref get into the action. The rudos are disqualified. Not much of a
match.

Charly Manson/Nygma/My Flowers/Picudo vs Perro Aguayo Jr/Pentagon/Duro
y Directo
Los Vatos Locos take fall one after several minutes of brawling. More
of the same in fall two, with the tecnicos taking it. Abismo Negro runs
in and blinds Perro Jr with a hair spray blow torch. Pentagon turns
rudo again, giving the match to the tecnico team. Average for a mostly
brawling match.

Abismo Negro/Kick Boxer/Heavy Dracula vs Blue Demon/Heavy Metal/Octagon
The rudo team wins the first fall after an Abismo frog splash and a
Kick Boxer suplex. Metal German suplexes Dracula, then rolls back and
cradles him for fall two. Demon dives through the ropes with a tope
suicida to the back of Abismo's head. Dracula dives through the ropes
onto Metal with an ugly attempt. Octagon springboards back onto Dracula
with a blind tope, then pins him for the match. The rudos brawl with
each other. Los Vatos and Pentagon run in. Good overall action.
