Seeing as how the only remotely possible alternative was to have the
Senate start debate on the House version of the bill, I was a little
surprised Republicans were against it in force. (Then again, I
wouldn't have been surprised if, say, Snowe would have voted to open
debate had there been only 59 votes otherwise.)
Now both sides get the chance to amend the bill - ER, UH, both sides
get to watch the Democrats amend the bill to the point where all 60 of
them (including the two independents) will vote to end debate and take
the final vote on passage. The problem is, at least one Democrat has
made it quite clear that if there is any mention of the Public Option,
then he won't vote to end debate.
So let me guess - things go like this:
1. The Democrats hammer out a bill that can get 60 votes, which
includes no public option. They "compromise" on the public option
thing by backing down on their "tax Cadillac health care plans" line
and go with the "tax the rich" plan the House has.
2. There is a bit of arguing in committee, but in the end, the
compromise bill has:
(a) no Federal money for abortions (remember, the House only has two
votes to spare);
(b) a slap-on-the-wrist tax on Cadillac health plans, but the money
comes predominantly from an increase in the upper income tax brackets;
(c) something that involves the FY 2010 or FY 2011 budget;
(d) in addition, there is at least one promise to pass a bill that
gives some sort of benefit to the state of at least one Senator and/or
Representative in exchange for their needed vote. (I wouldn't be
surprised if it gets to the point where the "final vote" in the House
is 217 for and 218 against, only for Pelosi to pull a trick out of the
Republican hat and delay declaring the vote over until she and Obama
can strongarm, or at least bribe, one Democrat to change their vote
from no to yes.)
3. Senator Reid uses the budget item in the bill to declare
"reconciliation" and get around the 60-vote rule.
4. Right after the 2010 elections, President Obama announces his
surprise: all "undocumented workers" in the country are automatically
put on the "preliminary fast track" to citizenship, and, as a result,
are eligible for health care under the bill.

such sentiments being said about political figures.
Let us now praise the 60 men and women who got America some health care.

Please learn how to read. They are to be charged with treason, then sent
to prison then put in a eclectic chair. All legal and shit. I didn't
threaten anyone's life. I hope you get sent to prison for some trumped
up charge and then get put in a electric chair.
You deserve it.
I hope you both have your genitalia eaten off by zombie chipmunks.
Thanks!
It figures that you'd use cartoons to communicate since that's the
level you understand.
(1) Voted for couture? The Senate is now judging UFC matches?
(2) The "eclectic" chair?
Syvyn11, could you be more hysterical? -- Joe (n.j.) [mWo]
And the level you understand is a soiled, moldy apartment wrestling
magazine, pervert.
Brah, what's so bad about it? Granted, he DID lose to BLAAAAAA Brock
Lesnar, and his win-loss record could be better, but he's held multiple
championships, and he's even beat Ludvig Borga.
