I don't think there is a connection. After one of the Clearwater protests
I had the opportunity to talk to pro wrestler The Sandman and his
"manager" in the Tampa airport. He lives in the area, but was unaware
until then of the Scientology controversy. Despite the distinct odor of
last night's alcohol he received a quick cult education. He was horrified
by the death of Lisa McPherson, and thanked me for my time.

Other pro wrestlers [Hulk Hogan is one off the top of my head] live in the
Tampa Bay area, which has a population of about a million people. Only a few
thousand are Scientologists.
Although to me both Scn and WWF are promoting theatre, and both ask you to
really believe what they tell you is happening, one is upfront and honest
about being for entertainment purposes only.

The Sandman is an SP?
huzzah!
also, it takes a modicum of skill to be a professional wrestler.
strange but true: the majority of pro wrestlers in the big 3 (ECW, WCW
and WWF) have bachelors or masters degrees. Most got into wrestling
through college, then switched from greco-roman to professional.
While it's true that a lot of the professionals do have degrees, only
a very few have any college or advanced amateur wrestling experience:
Kurt Angle, Shawn Stasiak, Steve Williams, and some indy talents are
the only ones that come to mind. Also the switch is from freestyle to
professional, not Greco Roman to professional; GR is very much a niche
sport and not one many people participate in (Rulon Gardner aside).
