I guess I have 2. The Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns covers but I have the

Hmm... 25 greatest ever, and a whopping *3* of them post-1980.

(Besides, Steranko did some S.H.I.E.L.D and Dr. Strange covers that blew
his stuff here away.)

kirby was overrated.
(dodges housebrick)
Action #1 should be #1.
Also, the cover of Batman holding a criminal while swinging over Gotham
should be there, as well as the first Hulk cover.
The combined Kingdom Come and the redone Crisis of Infinite Earths cover
(Ross)
should definitely be on here as well. Also to be included is the Crisis
cover featuring
Superman holding his dead cousin.

No, he wasn't.

Hear Hear. I'd nominate a whole slew of FF covers from one until about the
80s.
This is one of my favourites:

I used to have this book years and years ago. Wished I'd saved
all those from my youth. Woulda made a mint. *sigh*

Excellent. Galactus was a cool heel. Silver Surfer was sort of
a whiner, though.
Anything with Dr. Doom on the cover of FF was a must buy for me
back in the day.
Shit, I remember getting the Lois Lane one when it came out.

It needs more Kirby, and definitely a Perez or two--maybe Crisis #12--I've
always marked for that cover I'd also nominate the "Gwen Stacy" death cover,
where Spidey is yelling "WHICH ONE OF YOU IS GOING TO DIE?!" against a
backdrop of pictures of his friends and family, and the Romita cover which
shows Spidey turning his back on Parker.
Brian Bolland rules it, BTW.
Detective Comics #27? Yeah that one rules!

I agree with both. I have the TP. It's a great story and awesome George Perez
art.
Hell yeah! Batman: The Killing Joke should've been on here. The cover with
Joker holding the camera and he says "Smile".
The only thing that appeals to me about Kirby's art doing the sixties (that
everyone seems to mark over) is that the guy was doing around ten books at
the same time... over 200 pages a month. Thats impressive, however, the art
in those pages wasnt all that... especially considering what Ditko and
Romita, and even Don Heck did in the same decade...
>> No, he wasn't.
Liked Ditko. He had an unique style suited for Dr. Strange and
Spider-Man. Don't remember Romita. Never cared for Don Heck or Gil
Kane.
Kirby was probably the most influential and prolific comic
artist of all time. You can see a lot of Kirby in Steranko's work.
I wonder why no one mentions Neal Adams in the discussion of
great comic art?
Oh sure, Neal Adams is a god of comic art, probably the best outside of
frazetta, but I don't recall any memorable Adams covers...
Didn't he do the GL/GA cover with Speedy and the needle?
Stefan
Using Ditko was a masterstroke, because he didnt seem too specialise in
drawing huge burly characters like Kirby and Buscema were know for, so with
guys like Spidey and Dr Strange, who were supposed look a little scrawny, he
put them over really well.
>Don't remember Romita.
Romita took over Spidey when Ditko walked out, and also did Daredevil and
Fantastic Four after Kirby went. He also did the Spider-Man newspaper strip
very releuctantly for years... he probably (im not sure) appeared in one of
the "imagine Stan Lee creating" books from last year.
>Never cared for Don Heck or Gil Kane.
I liked Don Heck because his art on Avengers was more detailed than Kirby's,
but then Buscema went and blew him away. Must confess i havent seen any Gil
Kane

John Byrne puts him over a lot in his interviews. However, it depends what
you think of John Byrne.

He did the series back then.

I just finished rereading my reprints of the GL/GA neal adams stuff
Dubba T
plus adams lost alot of cred with continuity
He did a great one for the first GL/GA issue of the old GL run
Dubba T
Absolutely. I've got a TON of EC comics. Vault of Horror, Two Fisted Tales,
Weird Science-Fantasy, etc. They're great comics. I've even got a
frazetta-cover WSF.
I go thru phases that last for months and months and months where I'll just
buy one certain type of book. A "war" phase, or a Superman phase, etc. I'm
currently in a "Brave & Bold" phase. I'm only buying Brave & Bolds now.
Ever read seduction of the innocent by Frederic Wertham? *That's* what
really prompted the CCA, but the book is basically *about* EC comics. 90% of
the examples they use came directly from William Gaines' books.
oooh, mignola...now *there's* a good Batman artist...

The company that later launched MAD magazine.
A lot of those stories were used in the HBO series, ":Tales From The
Crypt", of which I was a mark for. The closing credits of each
episode used to say which mag it was from which is why I remember the
"Two Fisted Tales" title. I think they used stories from all of their
mags, even the westerns.
8 seasons of EC comics based stories, 7 seasons of "Tales" and the
last from "Perversions of Science" (Weird Science).
Also Kelly Jones did some great Detective or Batman covers
Dubba T
Kelly jones=AHHHHHHHHHHHH
up and coming and a damn good read to boot!!
He also did Batman/Dracula: Red Rain. an awesome awesome book, imo. Kelley
Jones rules it.
