The link is dead. If Abrams really tried, what a fool. Let me guess he'd also want the rest shut down as it is all from that "Universe." (Except Enterprise of course) I don't buy him being that foolish. Paramount wouldn't be that's for sure, especially with all they are putting into the Trek Series Blu-Ray releases and other merchandise.

(I still have fond memories of the 1990s, so much SF merchandise was out then it was off the charts.)

Of trek merch, i really only ever went for the blueprints, tech manuals
written 'in universe' style and art books.
i always have lamened that so few other shows were reluctant to do such
type merch.
i was really sad b-5 never put out official ship guides and culture
stuff relating to it all. there is RPG manuals and theyre OK but there
is a lot of extraneous ganing stuff you have to wade through.
im also surprised new BSG didnt do any of that either.

+1 to all of that. Back in the day I was hoping "Space: Above & Beyond" would do that with the Marines' gear and ships.

The 1990s had tons of shirts, pins, etc. out there. X-Files had a lot of that stuff. You're right about the books and blueprints, neat stuff. Also it is a good source of merchandising. Seems a no-brainer.

DEP

(George Lucas did OK with that stuff)

yeah!
SAB would have been great.
i have an Aliens Colonial Marine Handbook that would be an excellent
template for an SAB book.
i have a Wing Commander guide somewhere too.
I have a bunch of SW guides and actually the older ones from the mid
90's are a lot better, at least the ships and vehicles one is: it has
very large plan drawings and not the fancy CG rendered stuff that look
like stills from the movies or incomplete graphics scenes.

That rocks. SAB had a bit of a similar feel with the Marine aspect. Guides to the Fighter/Attack planes and Chig tech would be neat.

Congrats, they made some neat stuff. A good game franchise, the games were a bit better than the movie and had a fun cast in the later ones.

The Star Trek Roleplaying sourcebooks were very detailed and had a lot of tech info, including stuff from the concept art and clone wars background as it was in the 80s and 90s. By the late 1990s it got a bit out there with CGI stills as you say. The drawings and storyboards are really a lost art these days.

One neat thing about older movies was all of that stuff, matte work, etc. to sort of play with and at the end of the production all kinds of neat stuff was usually left over. Now it's all in a computer, it is harder to trace the evolution of concepts sometimes.
