I have also heard of a similar tour in Japan.

Sounds like what they used to do with the old Roman era. They would
flood the unit and have mock naval battles in the arena. It's hard to
imagine with what little tech they had back then that they were able
to design, pump, filter, drain, and maintain entire water supplies and
then have it ready for land/ground combat and such within a few days.
Rather like filling up a football stadium with dirt for supercross but
on a much deeper level.

If any one has pictures of this event after it occurs please post them.
I sure hope the I.J.S.B.A and its key officials are in France checking
out this weekends indoor event.
This is exactly the type of promotional event that the I.J.S.B.A
needs to add to the National Tour in order to push pwc enthusiasts/ competitors
into the mainstream marketplace.
Just compare how popular motocross was in america 20yrs ago prior to
"Supercross"? It was among avid moto fans but not very marketable to the
public.
Today in 1999 there is more than one supercross series with more
entries and riders nationwide than it can handle. Lots of television coverage
too!!!!
These european promoters are the best at putting on a show and
bringing in the crowds = $$$$$. (ie; Paris Supercross)
I just wish we could gain some positive knowledge from this Indoor
event...in europe.. and bring it back to our country and make it work for the
U.S.A. market.
Anyone have any comments please feel free to add them. thks.
Bill
It would seem a prudent action, which must surely indicate that they will not
be in attendance. Perhaps they will send the Int'l guy Bjork or D'ork or
B'onery (whatever) and he can tell all how fabulous it is, thereby making it
impossible for the americans to do it. - ask him, he'll tell you.

You can look to the IJSBA again for dropping the ball on indoor events. A few
years ago a promoter from out West tried to start a indoor series and the IJSBA
made it very difficult for him to the extent that he lost so much money that he
gave up the project. The IJSBA seems to be working against us more than anything.

No it failed because the engineers for the Astrodome didn't like the
thought of water over the electrics in the basement. The small pool was
kinda flimsy. If they had hauled dirt in to reinforce the walls of the
pool, it might have gone off with out a hitch. It needed to be bigger
too.
Perry
Myself and Jon Simpson both lost money on the deal and it did not even
produce a race. It appears that I will never get my money back but that's
racing, I guess. Big Red had promised to abandon the IJSBA and support
our efforts from the Press release Fax that I still have in my drawer but
that
never fully happened either.
Oh well,

I have not renewed my membership in the IJSBA since I found out all
the dirt as a result of trying to do this indoor venture.
I was to be the media relations coordinator and as part of that job stream
the audio portion of the races out on the internet. Would have been nice,
but as they say you can't loose money forever and stick with something.
Did the IJSBA Drop the ball on this? ABSOLUTELY. We were going to run
the event under a new and distinct banner of our own design. The APBA
was not much help although theirs was 5 times that of the IJSBA.
Deal me out... I've already written off the $9,000 dollars that I lost.

Wrong. The engineers had approved the plan to bring in enough dirt to
make a pool the entire size of the Astrodome floor. The pool would have
been
lined with 80 mill plastic that they use in landfills to cover up freshly
graded areas. This system was water proof and would have been made
on site to each location that we traveled to. The neat thing is the
material
was reusable. We could have cut it back into the 10 foot wide strips it
came in and hall it off to the next race.
We completely scrapped the portable pool idea after going to Canada and
watching the indoor boat show they had a few years back in a concrete
tank.
Just thought you'd like to know.

Then why was there no dirt at the Astrodome site around the pool? Just a
metal fence looking thing.
Perry
OOoooops! I thought it was the same race promoter.. Made us freeze in
the Astrodome parking lot.
Perry
Yes I was confused...Thought it was the same guy.
Perry
It's ok, All three of them have last names starting with an S :)

I am really sorry for you and Jon Simpson. I think you guys had a great
concept that would do wonders for this sport. I hope you take another shot at
it in the near future. I will do whatever I can as an IJSBA member to help
change their thinking. Best of luck. I hope you recoup that $9000 somehow.

Different group.

Thank you for the offers of support in this venture, I am sure that it may
take off
someday, I just don't have a clue as to when.
