P.S. If someone says the Rangers 94 cup i'll puke (even though it probably
belongs on the list...sorry, had to say it!)
1) How about the divisional playoff series a few years ago between
the Calgary Flames and the Vancouver Canucks? One game in particular
I remember seeing went into overtime and Kirk McLean was making some
outstanding saves to keep the Canucks in it. I know it had me at the
edge of my seat! (Not sure, but I think the Flames finally won that
game...)
2) The game where Wayne Gretzky broke the record of 801 goals
against the Edmonton Oilers at Northlands Coliseum. I read in The
Hockey News before the season started that someone predicted it would
be broken there, sure enough it was. Not only did he tie the game
with his record breaking goal, but came back to win the game in
overtime with another goal!

2) J.J. Daigneault's game winner in game 6 in the 86/7 finals
sending it back to Edmonton for game 7. The spectrum went
apeshit. Never been so proud of a team that didn't win!
Worst momemt in hockey history:
The offside goal in 1980 that stole the Flyers cup and gave the Islanders
a bullshit championship. Potvin's high stick goal in that game was
also bullshit. Therefore, Nystrom's bullshit OT goal sucks.

In Edmonton he broke the record of most points in a career while playing
for the LA Kings. It was last year in Los Angeles that he broke the
record for most goals in a career against the Vancouver Canucks. He may
have broke the record there, but the Canucks will won the game 6-3.

Mario's Goal is #1,
Darryl Sittler's 10 points against Cherry's Bruins is #2,
Washington Vs the Islanders in a never ending Playoff matchup in '87. is #3.

I agree. 1972. Game 8. Enough said.

Actually Henderson scored the game winner in game six (in the second
period however), game seven (in the last period) and game eight
(in the last minute).

Another great Robinson moment was an end to end rush that ended
in him scoring a spectacular goal against Boston in the '78 finals.
"Hockey Night in Canada" used footage of that goal as part of their
opening credits during the 78-79 season.
Richard A.
i also seem to recall a Kings vs. Oilers game several (many ?) years ago
where Robinson absolutely flattened Craig Simpson behind the LA (or was
it Edmonton?) net. i remember Simpson could barely skate straight after
the hit and went straight to the bench ... the announcer noted that
Simpson looked liked he wouldn't have known what city he was in after that
hit...anyone else remember this one? was it one of the early playoff games
after the Gretzky trade?
speaking of great hockey moments of a different sort ... how 'bout Steve Smith
banking one off the back of Fuhr's leg into his own net the year Calgary won
the cup? don't think i'll ever forget that one... i am sure calgary fans
won't either...

Saw them both (really young for the first one, but I remember!) - and the
Gretzky-to-Lemieux goal in Game 3 '87 Canada Cup with under 2 minutes to
go - oh man, I'm getting goosebumps all over!
That series was the finest sequence of 3 games I have ever watched in my
life. I wish they were on tape somewhere!
Another favourite is Game 7 of the SC finals, when NYI finally beat the
championship-defending Broad Street Bullies. Bobby Nystrom....

Fully agreed. Never saw better hockey anywhere else. Two awesome
hockey machines at it for three nail biters.
The new year's game in '75 with the Habs against the red Army was
also very good. Too bad it was one Dryden's weak moments (3 goals
in 13 shots). The Habs were all over but the viper-like Red Army
tied it up (3-3) and they had a wall in front of their net. That too
was hockey at its finest.

In 1980, Montreal was the defending champion, and the NYI won
the cup on Nystrom's goal in game 6, not 7.
