There has been a lot of talk about Eric Lindros as being the #1 Draft Pick.
Can anyone else post who they regard as the top ten picks.

Thanks,

Neil

I can name a couple that were regarded as top-ten before the season started:

Pat Falloon (C/W), Spokane, WHL
Brent Bilodeau (D), Seattle, WHL

Falloon is a prolific scorer and terrific playmaker. The Hockey News picked
him as one of the top picks for '91 last spring, and he has not disappointed
this season. He's always a scoring threat when he's on the ice, though his
size (5'9" or 5'10, around 170 lbs) might be a disadvantage.

Bilodeau, at 6'4", 220 lbs., is a huge presence on the ice, and had a great
rookie season as 16 year old. It is likely that he would have been rookie
of the year in the WHL last year had Petr Nedved not defected from Czecho-
slovakia. THN had Bilodeau ranked #2 behind Lindros going into this season,
but Brent has had a poor year, making many mistakes which he didn't last
year. He appears to be suffering from the Lindsay Vallis syndrome (great
rookie year; disappointing ever since), but if his play improves, he still
has a chance at being the San Jose Sharks' first ever draft pick. Even
Vallis went in the first round in '89 to Montreal after a poor sophomore
year.

Falloon was chosen to play on the Canadian National Junior team this year;
Bilodeau was not.

Defenceman Scott Niedermayer, currently playing on the Canadian National
Junior team, is widely expected to be drafted number two overall, right
after Lindros.

I've heard a lot of good things about Niedermayer. Henry, do you,
or anyone else, have his current stats (including PIM)? Also, how
big is this kid? I have a hard enough time in this hockey wasteland
of Dallas keeping on top of the NHL, let alone the juniors. Thanks.

I don't have very much information about Niedermayer. I do know that
he's 17 years old and an excellent skater. He didn't get very much ice
time with the Nat. Juniors mainly because of his inexperience with
international play, and this led many to crticize the coach as he was
viewed as one of the top defencemen on the team. He will return to
the Kamloops of the WHL with a shiny gold medal around his neck. For
what it's worth, he's Kamloops top defenceman and that team has the best
goals against record in the WHL. I'll try to dig up some more information
about this guy.

I'll try to remember to bring in my 90-91 WHL guide and post his stats.

Scott Niedermeyer is an offensive defenceman. The Blazers have better
guys on the blueline who are keeping the puck out of the net, not to
mention the stellar play of goaltender Corey Hirsch. Hirsch will be
eligible for the draft this year, and should also go high.

Niedermeyer is a playmaker like Darryl Sydor, another Kamloops defenceman
who was drafted in the 1990 first round by Los Angeles. (What do the Kings
need with another blueliner who can't play defence?) Better defence
is played by guys like Joey Middelstadt and Steve Yule.

Don't get me wrong. I think Scott Niedermeyer is a great player and always
an offensive threat; however, he's not responsible for the Kamloops low
GAA. He was great as a 16 year-old last year, and continues to improve. He
could be the first San Jose Shark.

BTW, Niedermeyer has a brother who plays for Medicine Hat.
