The far right likes to cling to the canard that because most southern
racists were Democrats 50 years go, they must all be Democrats now as
well. This ignores the factual reality that most southern whites are now
Republican. They left the Democratic party over issues like desegregating
the military, the schools, etc. This applies particularly to the racists.

FYI, do note that simply reporting on what is ... is not an
endorsement of that reality.

The reality is that there's a lot of minorities which haven't
been able to get citizenship who are consequently making a
living in the USA's cash economy, typically in jobs where
the pay is lower ... but the key question to this is if the
lower effective pay is because it is an unskilled laborer
position that isn't worth paying more for, or if it is because
these positions are able to offer less pay because illegals
lack status to negotiate for higher pay.

In simplest terms, certain US industries don't want the
illegal immigrant "problem" to be solved because for them,
the status quo allows for them to provide substantially lower
labor compensation costs.
