Always thought that it was a hip rotation but its not. It's a shift...left heel to right heel, which flattens the downswing and gives me more power. Another key is a proper grip, which I'd never figured out on my own without my pro. Basically I had the grip in my palm instead of fingers and hand pad.
Sounds like both fun and progress, Greg--congratulations. I haven't
been on a normal course in about a year except a couple of tournaments
where I ride with my retirees group; otherwise I prefer to walk but I
lost too much practice time to other priorities to do much the last
several months.
For a while now I've been going every week or so to an 18 hole 3-par
course where Tiger played when he was a small kid. So far nothing
Tiger has rubbed off on me, but lately my game elements have been
improving. Last week I had my best 9 hole score on that course, and
tomorrow I plan to do all 18. Holes range from 85 yards to about 140,
smallish and sloped greens, plenty of long rough. In a couple of
weeks I have another tournament with my group, so we'll see if it's
real or not. The last two or three years have been horrible.
