I'm planning to re-paint the numbers on my Hogan Edges and was wondering if
anyone can recommend a good paint. I'm assuming I'll want oil-based as
opposed to water-based, but what about acrylic vs. non-acrylic? Would
regular model paint be sufficient or should I spend more on a specialty
paint? Or would spray painting the number and then wiping off the
surrounding area be my best bet?

You might try something like the Markal brand of paint markers - La-Co
Industries.
Look in a good industrial hardware store, for sure a welding/steel shop.
This stuff is made to mark wet/oily/dry metal/iron/glass/ceramic/etc

lacquer paints are the best, but enamels will do. Put alot of paint into the
number don't worry how neat the area is. Wait till it dry's and then take a
rag, slightly damp with mineral spirits, and lightly wipe off the excess.

interesting question. I think a major consideration
might be shock resistance. it seems to me a
paint with superior adhesion that stands up to
heat or vibration might fit the bill. perhaps engine
paint. or an oil based primer if the numerals
are white.

I would use a small brush unless you want it to
look factory perfect. in that case I would mask it
before spraying.
