Are there any coupons out there? I heard a round is something like $325. Im willing to pay it, just wondering if there are any discounts available to locals.
Ed
You do not have to stay at the lodge to play PB, but it does help with the
green fee!
You're really taking a chance on the weather, tho. The Monterey Peninsula in
December can get bitterly cold, wet and WINDY! It will make a very difficult
course much more so.
Larry
Another excellent course that will give you the Pacific Coastal feel is
Seascape in Aptos...close to SF than Pebble...

$380 last time I looked in the pro shop (a couple weeks ago). Same
price whether or not you stay at the lodge. No coupons, no twilight
rate, no local rate.
You have a better chance getting a tee time if you stay at the lodge,
however... the course has NOT been packed the last few times I have
been there. I think if you showed up midweek on a cloudy/foggy day
you would have no problem getting out.
Check on their website and call the pro shop for more guidance.
If nothing else, consider walking the course in the late afternoon.
A lot of the local people do it. Stillwater cove is a public access
beach; you can start from there.
Seascape is a nice course, but it is no Pebble Beach. You have to look
hard to see the ocean on a few holes at Seascape. At Pebble, the ocean
is right next to you on half of the holes (4,5,6,7,8,9,10,17,18).
A closer approximation to Pebble Beach would be Half Moon Bay. Pacific
Grove muni is also fun to play, and cheap.
How much for the cart? Will they let you change your shoes in the parking
lot?

You bet.

Except that you can't hardly see the ocean from anywhere on Seascape
GC. Otherwise, you can't tell the difference :-)

Pacific Grove Muni back 9 is right on the water. Lovely.
(The front 9 mostly sucks. Boring, and in among residential streets.
And very short. Too many par-3's.)

I once saw a newspaper ad with a clip coupon worth 25 cents off a car. It was
designed as a joke to get our attention, but your question reminded me of it.
And budget for a caddy if you're playing Pebble Beach.
The back 9 isn't quite on the water. There's a busy road running
between the course and the water, and a public beach on the other side
of the road. Still, the views are pretty good!
The back 9 was designed by Jack Nevill, the same guy who designed Pebble
Beach. It is more of a true links course than Pebble, though - built on
sand dunes.
The front 9 at PG was designed by some other turkey.
The course with the closest look and feel to Pebble
Beach is the Ocean Course at Half Moon Bay. The course runs along the
cliffs right above the ocean, and there's an ocean view on every hole.
And it's "only" $135 (I've seen coupons for HMB, too).

I'll second the vote for Half Moon Bay's Ocean Course. The condition is
excellent, the staff is very good and the views are difficult to beat. It's
a tester, but it's very fair.
Larry
The time I played PG Muni, there was hardly any traffic at all on that
road...so little that I, in fact, forgot it was there.
When you see Really Good Coupons for HMB, let me know...I'll be there
in an Oakland Heartbeat!
When are we going?
Sheesh, Bill, you've seen my "game"! You really think I wanna donate balls
to the Pacific Ocean?!
Actually, this could be a great time of year to go. Although we'd have to
work around the holiday madness, I'd be all for it!
Larry
I thought your game was pretty good, although you wasted some strokes
around the greens. Work on your short game and you will see a big
improvement. I thought your full swing was very good, at least most
of the time. I think your brother has you on the right track.
I'd like to play HMB soon. I suppose it would have to be a weekend
to work for you? I'm looking for discounts, but so far haven't turned
up any.

I'll second that also. Excellent course, 16, 17, and 18 will give you a
great test to maintain your concentration coming in.
I also decline the incuded cart - the course is very walkable.
Have fun!
