I have a Nicklaus 430S driver I want to re shaft. I have a couple
shafts laying around. The factory shaft is 62g. I have 2 - 65g &
1-82g shafts at home. The 82 is real low torque 2.5 & stiff which I
like. The 65's are 2.8 & 3.1. I was wondering how much it would change
the swing weight & overall feel if I used the 82. I'd like to try the
82 because I like the look & stiffness. I could install tip weights to
get it back to original swing weight but am not sure if it would
change overall weight that much. I'm curious if the pro's use heavier
shafts or if they use ultralights? Any thoughts or experience on using
a heavier shaft.

Going from a 62 gram shaft (raw weight @46") to an 82 gram shaft (raw weight
@46") will change the swingweight around 3 points. This is enough to notice
but not a huge deal either.

You could backweight the grip area to get the swingweight back down to where
it was, but (IMHO) this is a hokey thing to do (I'm not against
backweighting, just against doing it strictly for SW purposes). Going back
to my youth I'd say "I wouldn't kick her out of bed over 3 SW points".

Quite a variety as shown by the players at the U.S. Open..as far as
OEM's to manufactured direct shafts to gram weight.

thanks, good link. I like that comment down the page about the Rifle
Saber 65 for $10 on clearance . I actually have the Royal Precision
Saber Tour Vector 75. It's a hell of a shaft but hard to find now.

It's rather easy at times to find good buys from ebay on iron shafts.
These though sometimes don't have gram weights as much as the driver
or fairway club shafts...and it makes me want to try different weights
out to make my buy worthwhile. I hit an over 100 gram graphite for my
irons, and they are definitely too heavy especially in the 3 and 4
iron. Most iron gms have been below 100, but now I see Ping's new
irons come in at 129, and the new Contours (steel) are in the 120's by
True Temper. The M-80 stays around 80 and is considered 'lite'. If
there was a 50 gram difference in a driver of fairway wood, it would
be huge news. Then there are ones like the True Temper Black Gold,
that has a descending weighted shaft system. Anyway, it's sometimes
such a whores market when it comes to buy and choosing in golf.
Another site that does good in some specs, and has some of the tour
reps talking new product and shop..is The Bomb Squad Golf.
