Nags Head Golf Links: Simply beautiful. A very difficult course, especially
for someone who has never played it (double if no one in your group, like us,
has played it!). It is a Scottish-style course which requires shot making
precision on almost every stroke. There are only a couple holes which let
you get out the driver off the tee. There are four holes that run along the
Sound which make it even more scenic. The greens are relatively flat, the
only problem is reaching them. This is a must play again, even with its
very expensive price tag. The rate for us in November was $50 ($30 for over
55). I remember in July it was $65 and we didn't play it then for that reason.
There are a couple of articles from local magazines on display in the pro
shop, grab them. One contains a hole-by-hole cheat sheet that really comes
in handy.
Sea Scape: Another Scottish-style course, but a little more open. You won't
lose as many balls here as at Nags Head. Nothing fancy, a rather easy course
compared to Nags Head. Again, flat greens, alot of doglegs, and more hilly
than Nags Head. One very annoying thing: no yardage markers on sprinklers,
only 150 yard markers. Since our condo overlooks the fourth tee here, I'm
sure I'll be back.
Duck Woods Country Club: Private club, only open to us tourists off-season.
That's ok for me, a very boring course. A lot of water, but mostly along the
sides of the fairway. No big deal here, I'll stick to Nags Head and Sea Scape.
