First it was Greg Norman.
Then Phil Mickelson came along.
And now Ken Pitts can't get a friggin break.

I had the pleasure of playing with Ken today and his play was terrific.
I mean, you couldn't be more solid. He blasted drives like gun shots and hit
some deft iron shots and chips, and was even solid with the flat stick. When
he finished with his 1-under par 71, he looked to be a sure winner and the only
question was gonna be whether the Coveted Peach Jacket would fit around him.
I didn't give him much of a battle today or Ken might have gone much lower. He
seemed content to just hit fairways and greens and wear my ass down, which he
did with relative ease (5 & 3).

How shocked Ken must have felt then when James Taylor, playing in the final
group of the day, comes in with his own 71. It didn't surprise me too much
since I had the pleasure of playing with James yesterday and I knew what he
could do. He's the real deal. Skinny as a rail and can really bust it. Quite
sickening.

So they go to the customary putt-off to decide the winner of the CPJ and for
the second year in a row Ken gets second place. A lesser man might complain
about settling such an important event with a putt-off, but Ken never has.
He's too much of a gentleman for that. I'm sure everyone involved would have
liked to see a sudden-death playoff to settle the tie, but the logistics of the
event prevents that. So a putt-off it is. I can't complain .... I won my
Peach Jacket that way.

So raise your glass to James Taylor, the Champion Golfer for 2002, and pour one
up for Ken as well. Both of these guys are great players and I'm glad to call
both of them my friends. Great playing, guys!

Thanks Bret. Like I always say, every day is a different day in this
game, and you had one of those today. If we played it again tomorrow,
the results could have been exactly reversed.

Yeech! Pass the insulin. It was much more entertaining when you two
were throwing darts at each other! :-)

<snipped>

Wow, Year 2 and once again some great scores and another putt-off. They
should have put you guys on TV instead of the GMO. :-)

Congrats to Ken and James, they both deserve it!
