Well our club is having their New Year's day scramble and potluck again
this year.

While some years have been not too bad for temps, this year it looks
like the name 'artic scramble' will be apt.

Supposed to be a high of 28, but of course, this being Southern
Illinois, it will be a sunny 28!! :)

What're your doing that day?

Sleeping in, then, driving 3+ hours to a friend's house to hopefully
find an open course to play on the 2nd. Nothing close to opening in
Central Washington.

Lots open in Western Washington, even on January 1st. It looks like it'll
be wet, but at least warm enough so we won't have the dratted temporary
greens.

The Home Course in DuPont is very playable in the wet. There are places
that seem to collect casual water, but away from them, the ball bounces and
rolls almost like summer. I've heard Legion Memorial in Everett is also
good, but I've only played there in summer, so I can't personally say.
Capital City in Olympia is another good choice for wet weather golf, but
it's likely way out of the way for anyone coming from Central Washington.

Good golfing!

I'll be wide awake, rooting for the Ducks!!!

Regarding golf....I live 15 mins. from the dryest golf course in the NW, in
terms of drainage. (Three Rivers Golf Course in Kelso, built on Mt. St.
Helens Ash) Yet.... playing winter golf is the furthest thing from my mind.
Five years ago, I played all year round, no matter what, on some pretty
muddy courses. Nowdays I just don't care anymore. Strange.

Supposed to be high of 23 and snowing here. I might have to put on gloves
when I make the turn.

No, actually I will probably be cutting firewood for next year.

I've pretty much done the same. When I retired, everyday was a golf

I seldom play when it is below 40 or raining, usually just some club
outing.

You might want to stay home, John. The revised forecast is calling
for up to a foot of snow followed by freezing rain through Friday
night. We may be staying put for the time being... :-(

Ice fishing. Is that where you fish the ice cubes out of your bourbon?

Anyhoo, the outing came off fine. A brisk 21 when we started with
bright sunshine and almost no wind, hit a high of 26 before nose diving
about sundown.

There were 25 of us idiots out there playing. Stiff bodies, too many
clothes, balls likes rocks, you know the drill. We all had a ball and a
great potluck dinner at the end.

Dry I suppose.....and the ball probably bounced fine on the tundra. Sounds
fun.

Hell is pouring rain and 35 degrees. I always loved hitting a drive in the
fairway and digging for it.

We had some rain a few days before. Ground was hard and frozen, so
yeah, lots of bounce and roll. Not to mention that hitting the green
wasn't a good thing at all.

Actually it's been pretty cold here lately. It's only 41 now. That
probably won't get much sympathy from you northerners, but by Florida
standards we're in the middle of an epic cold snap. I don't think the
temps are forecast to get over 60 until some time next week.
