of course that election was more complicated than "racists and sexists". The same people who voted for Jill Stein are called "sexist". The same people who supported Keith Ellison for DNC Chair are called "racist". Unfortunately for the Democrats policy was important and, in the case of the top of the ticket, lack of policy/flawed policy turned out to matter.
