Why is it that people are so bitter against the rich?

I'm so glad my company is private.

Cheers.

Dumbass Especially pilots are really expensive to replace and $1b over 3 years will be less than they waste on their buybacks.

Then again, he works for Citi, so

It's a shame that some people actually think people should be paid for their work.

How do you feel abput being overpaid for their work or not making an

I always thought what is referred to as leftovers is actually profit.

My previous company was public, but closely held--most of the shares were owned by the founder and his family, so it was essentially private and it was wonderful.

Once they retired and sold their shares, the bank that bought us wasn't happy with making a dollar if they could squeeze out $1.01. In doing so, they rotenoned the pond and salted the earth. I understand that's what relentless capitalism is all about, but it was so sad.

If I may ask, who were you quoting? Both Delta American Airlines just moved 1B USD each to employees and the institutional shareholders are crying bloody murder.

Capitalism is also about the Wal Marts moving into a niche created by
greedy capitalists - and them being followed by the ebays and Amazons.
Google happened to MS and Samsung to Apple. Bell South and ATT who?
The whole family no longer gathers arounf the old Philco to listen to
Little Jimmy and His Dad at 6 PM every night. On TV we can watch the
Lone Ranger surrounded by Indians hearing Tonto say, "Where do you get
that 'we', white man!"

That's competition and that's what capitalism is - at least IMO.

Yes, it was in relation to American Airlines. Kevin Crissey was the guy I quoted.

A followup that editorializes about the sentiment as a whole:

http://www.jsonline.com/story/money/business/2017/04/28/whats-wrong-giving-out-pay-raises-plenty-according-some-wall-street-analysts/100999690/

I guess this what I repeatedly see. Who cares about the long term? It's all about the quarter!

Work has become a useless proposition unless you force it on people by gunpoint.

You are mistaking people for having an ounce of pride. There's very different emotions out there today than pride.

Try prejudice.

Most of the people I know have a lot of pride. I don't know anyone who
receives unearned money except Medicaid - and only one of those.

I expect some of the parents of kids in the public school our
granddaughter attends receives unearned welfare but I don't know them.

But I am obviously naive because we don't frequent the same places.

Did I read that right that a typical American airlines pilot makes 86k? And flight attendant only 40k? I had assumed an American airlines pilot would make at least 275-325....damn...

Senior captains flying oceanic routes can get into the 200s. But for every one of them there are probably 10 domestic MD-80 or 737 first officers making a lot less.

But I agree even with that $86k seems low. Unless America Eagle pilots are included in that number. Those guys make peanuts.

He could just have easily written:

"This is frustrating. Boeing is being paid first again. Shareholders get leftovers"

or

"This is frustrating. The fuel companies are being paid first again. Shareholders get leftovers"

etc.

For some reason this particular expense bugs him above all the others, hmmm.

The glory days of being a pilot are gone.

My FIL took a lump sump buyout because he didn't trust the airline to maintain a pension. He earned in the high 200s from the late 80s on. Not sure how much he made running charters, but that seemed to be a good business.
